Worship and Warfare, Part VI

Now Jericho was securely shut up because of the children of Israel; none went out, and none came in. And the Lord said to Joshua: "See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor. "You shall march around the city, all you men of war; you shall go around the city once. this you shall do six days." Joshua 6:1-3

Moses was dead, Joshua was installed as the new leader of a new generation birthed in the desert wastes and now commissioned to cross the Jordan into a land their forefathers were not allowed to see, because of their rebellion. Joshua was visited by the Lord Himself and was given instruction on how they would conquer the city of Jericho by being obedient to His instruction and Joshua fell on his face and worshiped Him!

The children of Israel were going to worship their way to victory by marching around the city with the armed men in front of the ark of the covenant while the priests sounded the trumpets and God would go before them to bring down the mighty walls of Jericho. Having spent time in the wilderness and hearing about the miracles of their forefather's exodus from Egypt, they had now experienced their own deliverance from the desert by crossing the Jordan as God dried up the waters. This was their time and God was their Commander as they went to battle the people of the promised land!

In order for us to experience the mighty hand of God in our life we are to worship Him in sincerity of heart and humility of spirit for Him to vanquish our adversaries and exalt us as His people, the sheep of His pasture. He is our Lord, King and Deliverer and the One who fights for us against our enemies as we give Him praise and worship Him with adoration. As the children of Israel saw great victories, so we too will also see the mighty hand of God move on our behalf as we give Him the glory, praise and the honor He deserves as our Lord and King!

And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of ram's horns before the ark. But the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. "It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up every man straight before him." Joshua 6:4,5
