Vessels For Honor, Part II
A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, "Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves." II Kings 4:1
Elisha is a type of the church of the double portion anointing who received the mantle of Elijah. Elijah is a type and shadow of the Christ yet to come in the last days and Elisha is His anointed body of Spirit filled believers! In this story of the widow who had nothing with which to pay the creditor, Elisha asked her if she had anything and she told him she had only a jar of oil.
We are the vessels of God's holy anointing oil, stewards of His power, and keepers of the oil of His presence to give out to those who have none. Elisha told the widow to borrow empty vessels and to pour what she had into them and to set aside the full ones, and so she did and when she told her son to bring her another vessel, he told her there were no more, and the oil ceased. This is what vessels for honor do, they give of their anointing to others who have none, by transferring what God has given us through the laying on of hands and by preaching the gospel of His glorious kingdom!
The Holy Spirit was poured out at Pentecost on one hundred twenty sold-out on fire disciples of Christ and told to go into all the world and spread the fire. These godly vessels obeyed the Lord and multiplied their anointing and we have a body of believers today because of their obedience to give of their precious anointing oil!
Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, "Go sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest." II Kings 4:7
