TWELVE STONES

Then He appointed twelve that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach, and to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons: Simon, to whom He gave the name Peter; James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James, to whom He gave the name Boanerges, that is "Sons of Thunder." Mark 3:14-17

James was one of the "Sons of Thunder", a name Jesus gave them because of their courage, never backing down from a confrontation and on one occasion wanting to call fire down from Heaven on a city that refused to receive the message of Jesus!

Brother of John the apostle, a fisherman who lived in Bethsaida, he preached in Jerusalem and was beheaded by Herod. He and his brother John were inseparable and his name never appears apart from his brother. The New Testament says little about James other than he left all and followed Jesus.

James was a man of courage and forgiveness, living in the shadow of his brother John, a man of extraordinary faith and he was the first apostle to be martyred, giving all to follow Jesus!

Then He said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." They immediately left their nets and followed Him. Matthew 4:19,20
