The Whole Armor Of God, Part VII
And take the helmet of salvation. Ephesians 6:17
When we become born again by the transforming power of the Holy Spirit we receive the helmet of salvation that guards our minds from the lies of the enemy. As believers we are to have the mind of Christ and our thoughts are to be pure as we set our minds on heavenly things as the word states in Colossians 3:2.
Today in this fast paced world of high speed information it is a full time job keeping the mind set on the heavenly and not the world that has multitudes of things trying to enter our thought life. The battle we face is in the mind, that place where the devil sends fiery darts of fear and doubt to defeat us in our faith and to try and occupy our thoughts. Have you ever heard a song or an ad with a catchy jingle that gets stuck in your head and takes days to get it out? That's the battle, the war within your head, it doesn't have to be evil, it only has to fill space reserved for the word of God.
The parable of the sower explains this in great detail about the worries and cares of this life that choke the word right out of us, leading us to fall away from the faith of God. One of the hardest things to do but necessary to sustain your spiritual life is to develop a quiet time with God, seeking Him daily, meditating on His word, interceding and communing with Him, filling your mind with heavenly things. The health and well-being of your spiritual life depends upon the amount of time you are willing to invest in His kingdom seeking the revelation that opens to us the mysteries of God.
But let us who are of the day (light) be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. I Thessalonians 5:8
