Having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Ephesians 6:15
In order to prepare to take the gospel message into all the world, one must first know what the gospel is and what it consists of. The "Good News" is the most important message in the world, so we had better get it right unless we lead people astray! First of all, the good news is this: your sins have been forgiven and washed away by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ! Secondly, you must appropriate this act of mercy into your life by confessing and repenting of your sins.
Many today have watered down the gospel making it available to everyone who prays a little prayer accepting Jesus into their heart, led by blind guides with selfish motives and "Poof," according to them you become a Christian! It all sounds good but it is no where in scripture that men prayed prayers to receive Jesus. John the baptist prepared the way for the Lord's ministry by preaching a baptism of repentance for those who were convicted of breaking the law of God, and were willing to turn away from their sins in order to be saved! They confessed their sins, were baptized into a watery grave and were resurrected into a new creation life, repenting of their disobedience.
The first message Jesus preached was repent as it was for Peter and the disciples and the apostle Paul. There was no invitation to receive Jesus, it was come lay down your life, repent and have your sins washed away by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, and follow Him! At Pentecost where the first church was assembled after the Holy Spirit fell and 3000 were saved it became customary to sell all to provide for their new brothers and sisters who had been saved and moved in with them. Imagine today at an altar call with every head bowed, every eye closed and the preacher leading you in a prayer saying you had to sell all and give it in the offering, that would go over like a lead balloon.
I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even we, or an angel from Heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. Galatians 1:6-8
