The Whole Armor Of God, Part IV
Having put on the breastplate of righteousness. Ephesians 6:14
The breastplate covers the chest area that guards our heart where the truth of knowing who you are in Christ dwells. We are the very righteousness of God in Christ, more than conquerors, empowered with His Spirit and endowed with power and authority to rule and reign over His enemies.
We are encouraged to guard our heart for from it proceed the issues of life. Our spiritual life revolves around the heart and we need to protect it at all times because the enemy is always looking for an inroad to bring about an offense or a wound such as someone hurting your feelings, which can cause unforgiveness. The church is littered with broken hearts, people offended, have ought, rejected, wounded or neglected. Many congregations are filled with people who have been hurt by someone and left only to drag their pain into another fellowship and so the cycle continues to breed anger and hate leading to a cold and bitter person.
Knowing who we are in Christ, guarding our heart and understanding who the real enemy is will insure a healthy relationship with the Lord Jesus and with others. When someone is wounded he leaves a "blood trail" of pain, unforgiveness, resentment and hatred that leads to bitterness, and just like an animal that has been wounded, the predators follow the blood trail and finally catch up and kill their prey! So it is with the powers of darkness, they follow your blood trail until they can bring you down and destroy your life.
My son, give attention to my words; and incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to their own flesh. Guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. Proverbs 4:20-23
