THE NAMES OF GOD
The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me besides still waters. (waters of rest) He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness, for His name's sake. Psalm 23:1-3
Jesus is our Chief Shepherd, without which we would be in serious trouble because sheep have to have oversight, provision, and protection lest they die. This is true in the natural as well as with the supernatural care of sheep, the only creatures that need a shepherd.
Sheep have many needs and in order to have a healthy flock they must have a shepherd keep them free from pestilence: flies, parasites and mosquito's that irritate them to the point they wont eat or lie down. They have to be led to still waters because rushing water scares them and they wont drink. At night they have to have constant oversight to protect them from predators.
When a sheep becomes heavy with wool and gets wet and then gets down on its back it is called a cast sheep. Unable to right itself, it becomes easy prey for an attack by predators, so it is with us when we are down and out we cry out for the Good Shepherd and He comes to get us back on our feet! He restores our soul!
"I am the Good Shepherd; and I know My sheep, and I am known by My own. "As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep." John 10:14,15
