THE NAMES OF GOD
Then Melchizedek, king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was priest of God Most High. And he blessed him and said: "Blessed be Abram of God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand. And he gave him a tithe of all. Genesis 14:18-20
El Elyon, The Most High God, El meaning God and Elyon meaning Most High is the name above them all. Remember, Melchizedek is a type of Jesus whose name is above every name and everyone will someday bow before Him and proclaim Him, King of all kings and Lord of all because He is God in the flesh!
I cringe at the sound of OMG from the masses today who have no idea what they are saying or of whom they so flippantly speak. The Most High God has been reduced to a vainly spoken abbreviation on social media and has become the norm in our modern day vocabulary. The youth of today have no idea who God is or in many cases they don't know if He really exists.
Throughout scripture God is portrayed as holy, righteous and high and lifted up above all things, Creator of all! From the burning bush Moses approached as well as the holy of hollies in the temple, disregarding the Most High meant certain death. If the High Priest went to stand before the ark of the covenant with sin in his heart, it is said he had a rope tied around his leg so that he could be pulled out in case of his death.
Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; and in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, until these calamities have passed by. I will cry out to God Most High. (El Elyon) To God who performs all things for me; He shall send from Heaven and save me; He reproaches the one who would swallow me up. God shall send forth His mercy and His truth. Psalm 57:1-3
