The King Is Coming!

"Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey." Zechariah 9:9

Psalm Sunday is the celebration of the triumphal entry of the Lord Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, in which He fulfilled the prophesies previously spoken of Him. The King of all kings rode on a donkey into the city and people laid down their garments and palm branches before Him signifying the victory of salvation that He was bringing as He entered the city.

In light of this celebration let us not forget why He came into the city in the first place, and even more importantly, has He come to you with His saving grace and forgiven you of your sins and iniquities? We can get carried away by the celebration and miss the reason Jesus came to the earth, and that was to bring salvation to mankind who had rebelled and sinned against a holy God. This whole week should spotlight His act of mercy as He journeyed to the cross to shed His blood for us to inherit eternal life and to be set free from the bondage of sin and eternal death!

Don't let the historical facts and dead rituals blind you to the truth of why Jesus came and what it means to be born again and washed in His blood, in order for you to be saved from your sins. People get all weepy as they view the spectacles of endless passion plays, but miss the main point of the whole week, and that is the question: are you saved and forgiven of your sins and transgressions, or are you just having an emotional response that will fade in time and with it, profit you nothing in regards to true salvation.

Go through, go through the gates! Prepare the way for the people; build up, build up the highway! Take out the stones, lift up a banner for the peoples! Indeed the Lord has proclaimed to the end of the world: "Say to the daughter of Zion, surely your salvation is coming; behold His reward is with Him and His work before Him.' " Isaiah 62:10,11

"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." John 14:6

Contrary to popular belief and the opinions of worldly minded people, Jesus is the only way of salvation for man. Even though many religions promote their version of eternal life, none the less, the Lord Jesus Christ is the only One to die and shed His blood to make a way for us to inherit His saving grace.

The truth is the way, and the way is in the blood, a new and living way inaugurated through the flesh of the Lord Jesus. Jesus entered Jerusalem to change the way of salvation from dead works, rituals and animal sacrifices to a way of faith in His death, burial and resurrection in which He died once for all to receive His gift of eternal life. The old temple with it's laws, rituals and old priesthood with it's dead traditions were done away with as the angels tore the veil of separation in two while Jesus died on the cross.

The life is in the blood of the Savior, without which, no one will see the Lord. The perfect sacrifice, the Lamb of God was put to death along with our sins and took the punishment for us to whom it was do in order to make a way for us to enter eternal life. By faith and not works we receive the gift of His grace to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, washed in His blood and made to stand righteous in His presence.

"I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. "And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?" John 11:25,26

"The voice of one crying in the wilderness; prepare the way of the Lord; make His paths straight. Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill brought low; the crooked places shall be made straight, and the rough places smooth; and all flesh shall see the salvation of God." Luke 3:4-6

John the baptist, was preparing the way of the first triumphal entry of Jesus when He began His ministry to bring salvation to all of mankind by His sacrificial death and to build His church. The Lamb of God appeared on the scene to destroy the works of the devil and to deliver man from eternal death and damnation.

The message John preached was very different than what we hear today in our comfortable cathedrals of complacency as he railed against the multitudes who were coming to be baptized by him. "Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath of God?" No self respecting preacher today would dare say that to a multitude of future tithers because everyone knows you can't build a mega-church by preaching the word of God! John told them that unless they bore fruits of repentance they would be thrown into Hell and in desperation they cried out and said, "What shall we do?"

Multitudes were coming for another dead ritual and got the surprise of their lives when John preached the gospel to them and told them unless they repented of their evil behavior they would suffer the fires of damnation. The truth of the gospel that John preached is the same gospel Jesus preached that brought conviction to the hearts of men, exposing their sins and making a way of salvation for them by repenting and believing in the Lord Jesus Christ!

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word (The Lord Jesus Christ) became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 3:12-14
