The Fruit Of The Holy Spirit, Part I

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Galatians 5:22

The fruit of the Holy Spirit is the very nature and character of God that we inherit as new believers in Christ. Fruit trees are known by their fruit, apple trees for apples, peach trees for peaches, cherry trees for cherries and so on and we are no different, being known for the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

The divine nature and character of God is contained in the seed of the word of God that we receive at the time of our spiritual birth and as we grow and mature just like natural fruit trees we begin to bear the fruit of God. As the natural process of maturity bears fruit, so also the supernatural process of sanctification also bears fruit in us. God is the gardener who watches over the orchard, maintaining the trees, pruning them as needed and making sure they are allowed to grow up into mature sons and daughters in Him.

There are nine fruits of God's nature that every believer eventually bears as he is tried and tested in this life. Like diamonds that begin their journey as lumps of coal, they are subjected to years of extreme pressure, finally producing one of the most beautiful jewels on the planet and one of the hardest of gems known to man. We as the body of the living Christ are known by the fruit on our divine tree, displayed before the entire world as the planting of the Lord!

"Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. "A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. "Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. "Therefore by their fruits you will know them." Matthew 7:17-20
