And the Angel of the Lord appeared to Moses in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed. Exodus 3:2

Moses was drawn from the waters of the Nile by Pharaoh's daughter and she took him and raised him as her own while all the other new born boys were killed, except those spared by the midwives who feared God! Moses grew up in wealth and privilege until he killed an Egyptian and fled into the desert.

God was raising up a deliverer for His people Israel who had been in bondage to the Egyptians and made Moses a shepherd to train and equip him to lead them out of slavery, a type and shadow of the Lord Jesus Christ. Being humbled as a lowly shepherd built character in Moses to become one of the greatest leaders of all time.

One day Moses was drawn to Horeb, the mountain of God where he saw a bush burning but not consumed. From within the bush God called Moses into His service to set His people free from the bondage of slavery, but warned him to remove his sandals because he was on holy ground! Jesus was also called by God to set us free from the bondage of sin and then He led Him into the desert!

And the Lord said: "I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows." Exodus 3:7
