And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings. I Corinthians 12:28
Jesus spent much of His time on earth healing the sick and casting out demons because the world was in great need as it is today. The gift of healing is a gift that we all can employ in our daily walk with God and it is part of our great commission but there are those who possess a special gift of healing that displays to the world the mighty power of God.
One such man was John G. Lake born in 1870 into a family of sixteen children of whom eight died of various diseases. As John grew up he began to hate sickness because of the grief it caused his family and after he was saved and filled with the Spirit he received training from a man who was involved in healing in Chicago, and then moved to Spokane, Washington where he opened a healing room and over 100,000 people were reported to have been healed, making Spokane the healthiest city in America. Mr. Lake was also made an honorary doctor by the medical profession because of his great gift of healing.
The body of Christ today also possesses this great gift of mercy and compassion and the world needs to see it in operation, not just at an altar call but out in the streets and marketplaces of the world just as Jesus did and commanded us to do likewise. We have been given all the gifts of God's Holy Spirit and we are expected to use them in the harvest of souls all over the world to people who are in need of healing and deliverance. Medical science is not our healer, Jesus is, and we have the same power in us that raised Him from the dead!
"And these signs will follow those who believe; In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; "they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." Mark 16:17,18
