The Body Of Christ, A Reality, Part I

For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. I Corinthians 12:12

When I first came to the Lord thirty five years ago He began to show me the reality that His body in the earth was in fact the representation of the Lord Jesus Christ in us. As I grew in the Lord, the Spirit of God began to show me that the church today was not built to His specifications, but constructed just like the old priesthood that was done away with by the Lord Himself.

One of the first books I read on the subject was called The Body of Christ, a Reality by Watchman Nee in which he described the function and divine design of Christ's body. He gave an illustration of how the body of Christ was likened to the human body, which had members that had to operate so that the body would maintain a healthy life. We have been led to believe that we are just cells, here today and gone tomorrow just like the human body sloughs off millions every day, but we are not cells, we are members just like your heart is a member of your body.

I am not speaking of membership as in the world, but individual members of a supernatural living being that forms the body of the Lord Jesus in the earth. Every member is a living breathing organism that produces a specific purpose in contributing to the life of the body. Watchman Nee gave an analogy of a man who had an artificial leg, it looked like a member of his body but it had no life within it, and no feeling, just a lifeless appendage, but we are not lifeless, but alive to the Spirit and functioning members of the Body of a living breathing Savior.

For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body-whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, we have all been made to drink of one Spirit. For in fact the body is not one member but many. I Corinthians 12:13,14
