This year has been a very trying time for me, physically, mentally and emotionally. Twenty years ago I was diagnosed with an incurable debilitating disease and after finding the right Doctor and medications my father died of cancer. Having taken care of him in our home and having hospice on board is the reason I have such empathy for people living with illness.
Recently my 86 year old mother fell and fractured her arm and hip down in South Texas and we have had to make multiple trips to hospitals and rehabs. She is now in a nursing facility and will probably come up here with us after her rehab. While tropical storm Harvey was swirling around in the gulf Tim left me to go back home while I packed up my mother's apartment. On Friday of that week the storm, now a hurricane hit us and we rode the storm out in the nursing home 30 miles from Victoria.
While in the nursing home God began speaking to me about the patients and nurses, their need and their dedication. There are literally hundreds of small towns in the South Texas area that are desperate for assistance, away from the media coverage and photo-ops! On our way down to see my mother after her fall we dropped off a load of Christmas gifts and personal care products to a local sheriff's department that was in need.
This year Angel Bear will be helping those with cancer and HIV-AIDS as we have for the past ten years. We will also be helping those afflicted by hurricane Harvey in South Texas. Thousands are still without power and many have lost everything. To accommodate the donations needed of personal care products, toiletries, cleaning products, paper goods, etc. we are opening a warehouse in Ft. Worth where we can ship and receive donations.
Our present need is for donations to help us purchase Gaylords (36"x 36"x 24" cardboard shipping containers) that hold up to 600 lbs. of products that allow us to buy in bulk and saves us hundreds of dollars. A donation of $500.00 will purchase one or sometimes two Gaylords depending on the product. Your gifts and prayers are so important to us and we sincerely appreciate your concern to help in this tragic disaster.
I am presently searching South Texas through local police departments and others for those in need and our goal is to help 1000 people. Any donation is welcomed and appreciated as we look forward to help those in need. If you have any questions please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Donations can be mailed to The Angel Bear Project, P.O. Box 162932, Ft. Worth, Texas 76161 or you can use our PAY PAL account on our website, in any case thank you and may God richly bless you and yours!
Your servants in Christ, Tim and Mary Ann Laughlin
