JEZEBEL, QUEEN OF THE DAMNED
Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. Revelation 2:20
The woman mentioned in Revelation was most likely not actually named Jezebel, but the name was applied to her because of characteristics that she shared with Jezebel, the wife of Ahab, king of Israel, as related in various passages from 1 Kings 16 through 2 Kings 9 in the Old Testament. (There has apparently been no further specific historical identification of the actual name of the woman in the church at Thyatira.)
Jezebel is a devilish spirit sent to deceive and seduce the body of Christ and its motive is to destroy God's servants, especially leadership! Many a mighty man has succumbed to its charms and adoration that allows it access to a man's life! Its targets are normally men with a good heart and a sensitive spirit who have a spirit of Ahab that makes them wide open to Jezebel's attack which starts out with Jezebel giving praise and adulation and exaltation that leads to idolatry and the outcome many times, immorality!
The leadership of the body of Christ needs to be trained and equipped to deal with this spirit, lest it destroy their churches with its deceptive schemes as it has with millions in the past! A warning needs to be given to the body to be on the lookout for this devil which will move through a body of believers wreaking havoc as it brings down its prey!
And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent. Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds. Revelation 2:21,22
BAAL, GOD OF JEZEBEL
Now Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord, more than all who were before him. And it came to pass, as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians; and he went and served Baal and worshiped him. I Kings 16:30,31
To simplify the worship of Baal, god of Ahab and Jezebel, they worshiped Satan because all of the Cannanite gods were in actuality, demons! This is where the name Beelzebub comes from or Baal-zebub, a Philistine deity.
The Hebrew name Baal means Lord, possessor, husband, master and controller. This is where Jezebel gets its power to possess souls and dominate their lives. There is no gender in the ranks of the demonic and many who have this destructive demon are not aware of its possession of them! Don't be deceived by thinking that Jezebel is a loud mouth woman in the church because this demon will destroy even the strong who allow it access into their life!
As we will see in this teaching Elijah, a type of Jesus comes on the scene to war with this demonic entity and its 850 deceitful prophets. Elijah first confronts Ahab with a sign that at his word there shall not be dew or rain these years, except at his word. The significance of this miracle is the fact that Baal was the god of rain!
And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. Matthew 12:27
ELIJAH SILENCES JEZEBEL'S VOICE
Now therefore, send and gather all Israel to me on Mount Carmel, the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal, and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel’s table.” I Kings 18:19
Elijah challenged Jezebel's prophets to a duel to expose their illegitimacy by telling them to build an altar and cry out to their god to answer by fire, the first god to answer would be the god of Israel! They built their altar and cried out all day to their god but no answer!
Imagine a spirit that has 850 false prophetic voices spewing out deception, deceit and lies to its prey, trying to weaken them so that Jezebel can take them down, after all she controlled a country, Israel, who allowed her in because of their worship of Baal, the devil himself! Jezebel is a principality, an angelic prince assigned to a territory that happened to be Israel.
This is why this spirit causes so much trouble, because of its power and authority to rule and reign in the body of Christ. It is so prevalent and its reputation so familiar because it is a major principality but is dealt with as just a demon!
And Elijah came to all the people and said, "How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, (Satan) follow him." I Kings 18:21
