Supernatural Living, Part XIV
And it was told Him by some who said, "Your mother and brothers are standing outside, desiring to see You." But He answered and said to them, "My mother and My brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it." Luke 8:20,21
Many claim to be followers of Christ, but very few take Him at His word and truly do what He has commanded them. In the above mentioned scripture, Jesus is telling us that His true family are those who obey Him and indeed follow the leading of His Spirit.
There are dire warnings in scripture from the apostles, Peter, Paul, James, John and by Timothy, that in the last days many people's love would grow cold and that they would become lovers of self and not lovers of God. This has definitely come to pass especially in the western church where the god of self rules supreme, preached by false prophets, shepherds and self help gurus. Jesus warned that in the last days that even the very elect of God would be deceived and to beware of wolves who come in sheep's clothing.
Timothy speaks of a people who have a form of godliness but deny the power of God, these are not believers but seemingly religious on the outside, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves, hard hearted, unrepentant souls that Peter said are reserved for the darkness of damnation. Timothy also states that they are always learning but never able to come to the knowledge of the truth! Now is a time to know if you truly are a part of the family of Jesus or stuck in a sheep pen filled with goats. Are you doing the will of God for your life or just loving yourself and running with the herd? The question has eternal consequences!
But know this, that in the last days perilous times (times of stress) will come. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness, but denying its power. And from such people, turn away! II Timothy 3:1-5
