Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead. Philippians 3:13
The apostle Paul explained to the Philippian church that he had not yet been perfected in Christ, nor that he had attained to being made complete, but that he forgot those things that were behind and kept reaching forward to those things that are ahead. The great thing about being a believer is that His mercies are truly new every morning and we can virtually start over every day.
The goal of the instruction of the Lord Jesus Christ through the revelation of the scripture is the transformation of our inner man, in other words we are being conformed to the image of Jesus through trials and the work of the cross that puts to death the deeds of the flesh in us. Like a diamond which begins as a lump of coal after eons of external pressure it begins to become a beautiful jewel in the hand of the Lord. So it is with us, we are tried in the furnace of affliction like silver having its impurities burned out by intense heat and when the Silversmith can see His image in us the work is complete!
The supernatural life is to become like Christ in every aspect of our lives, dying to those things of the world and the flesh, we live in the Spirit as divine beings serving the Lord as He leads us to the cross that will ultimately destroy everything in us that is not like Him. The upward call, or high calling is our destiny to live in the world and not be of it, being citizens of a spiritual world high above the noise and fervor of every day life, we live and have our being in the realm of a heavenly kingdom brought to earth.
I press toward the goal of the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14
