Stolen Minds

"The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill and destroy, I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." John 10:10

In the past few hundred years there has been a subtle robbery being committed against the minds of all of mankind. With the inventions of technology and science the devil has managed to cleverly steal the intimacy that we have with God and man through the development of devices that vie for our relationship with Him.

Before the advent of technology people spent quality time with one another, communicating, having true fellowship and even obeying the first command of God: to be fruitful and multiply! It is a known fact that when the lights go out in a power failure pregnancies increase and the population grows. Today we don't have time for one another or God because our whole life is neatly packaged in an electronic device. Have you tried to have an intelligent conversation with your kids or grand-kids lately?

The other day I took my wife to the hair salon that is situated in the midst of TCU in Ft. Worth at 12:00 pm and kids were everywhere going to lunch or class and I had to be extremely careful not to hit one of them because their eyes were on their i-phones and they were completely oblivious to their surroundings. On the nightly news there are more frequent accidents involving rear end collisions and the cause, I believe is the electronic hand held instrument they are looking at! My 93 year old neighbor, a WWII vet says to me, why hell, I don't even have a "Blueberry!"

The truth is he barely has a land line and he is content to sit and converse as he always has, totally "hands free." So, you think technology is the work of the devil? Well listen to my story, as an old salesman of mine used to say and I will attempt to get your attention off the question and get on to the answer. The last few hundred years as Daniel says will see knowledge increased and so it has and is now accelerating at an astronomical rate.

Why would God intentionally create something to take our eyes and ears away from His word and His will and put mankind on a treadmill of busy-ness totally addicted to electronic devises and diving headlong into a virtual "un-real" world of fantasy and lust? The answer is a resounding no! God's word says, "Be still (quiet) and know that I am God." In other words be quiet and listen to Holy Spirit's voice speak to your heart, not in a frenzied ride to work in grid-lock traffic, but in a tranquil setting far away from the hustle and bustle of life.

Now I know what you are thinking, there has been much good done with technology through radio, TV and even the Internet to spread the word and even now you are reading this message on one of your devices. That's true but like anything else there is a dark side and that's what I am attempting to expose! Jesus warned that as in the days of Noah there would be another flood in the last days and I believe we are in the midst of it, a flood of technology full of lust and porn and filth like mankind has never experienced.

So the serpent spewed water out of his mouth like a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away by the flood. Revelation 12:15

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2

To be conformed to this world is to be pressured to follow its lead and become a part of its pattern or manner of life from the outside, to be transformed is a work of renovation from the inside by Holy Spirit. To renew your mind one must flush out the old thought processes and allow the word of God to cleanse you and create in you the mind of Christ.

Like one lying on an air mattress asleep in the sun and then suddenly awakes miles from shore finds that drifting away is effortless and easy to do when not paying attention to ones position. So it is with the believer, he must constantly check his compass to find out where he is at all times less he drift away from the truth. In order to maintain a relationship with God one must spend quality time meditating, communing and studying His word always seeking His face to keep his mind free from the things of the world.

The devil doesn't have to kill you, he only wants you out of the war. His sole mission is to distract, deceive and draw you away from building a solid relationship with God. The parable of the sower gives insight into the conditions of the heart and mind of man and warns that trying to find God in the midst of thorns is one who is consumed by the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches that literally choke the word out of them.

I can't tell you how many times I have seen someone get free from drugs, or comes out of prison leaving their safe haven with a brand new heart cleansed by the blood of Jesus, only to fall prey to the cares and worries of this life that ends up destroying their new found relationship leading them back to destruction, and in many cases, even death. Like baby sea turtles leaving the warmth of their mother's nest on their journey to the water's edge, the birds of the air pluck them up one by one, greatly depleting their numbers.

That you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind,, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. Colossians 3:1-4

The mind of man is a super computer designed by God Himself, capable of storing His word in it's memory banks so that it can be used for every circumstance. The mind can be filled with good or bad and as my former pastor used to say, "garbage in, garbage out!" Just like a computer the mind can be set on things above or things on the earth and the choice is ours to download whatever we choose.

Filling your mind with God's word will produce a knowledge of His will and a dialog in which one can communicate with Him that ultimately will solidify a strong and vibrant relationship. Not just reading and memorizing, but seeking the true treasure of the revelation of His word that Holy Spirit deposits in our heart and allows to grow and bear fruit. Your word I have treasured in my heart that I might not sin against You is an example of how the revealed word of God sustains us.

Today there are many things trying to steal your mind and ultimately, your heart and the choice is yours to fill it with things above pertaining to Christ or allowing the world to fill it with things on the earth. In order to escape the flood that is trying to wash away your relationship with God, take an inventory of your thought life and clean out that which is not God and begin to replace it with His word and you will be grounded on the rock when the storm comes.

His delight is in the law (word) of the Lord, and in His law he meditates (considers carefully) day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf does not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper. Psalm 1:2,3
