Spirit Led Giving, Part II
"Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say. 'In what way have we robbed You?' In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse. For you have robbed Me, even this whole nation. Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house." Malachi 3:8-10
In order to explore the blessings of New Testament giving we need to dispel the traditions of men that hold us in bondage, such as the tithe. First of all it is not mentioned nor taught in the New Testament except when Jesus was rebuking the Pharisees and it was never taught that the Gentile churches had any obligation to tithe.
The above mentioned scripture, although a favorite among preachers, wanting to manipulate their congregations to give by threatening them with a curse, was done away with when Jesus died on the cross. The old priesthood with its rituals, laws, ordinances and traditions were wiped out by the crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ, beginning a new way in which to live! There is no "Storehouse," no temple graineries and no Levitical priesthood in which to give, it was all done away with. The New Testament believers are led by the Holy Spirit to give and as I mentioned in the previous message, He sets the standard of your giving and it is measured back to you as you give in obedience to Him.
The 21st century church is still held in bondage to so many traditions and doctrines that greatly diminish the blessings of God that He wants to bestow upon us! Greedy preachers, self-help gurus and lazy believers have just excepted whatever was fed to them without going to the source for wisdom, knowledge and understanding of the word of the living God! So! Will you continue to give under obligation of an ordinance that passed away, or will you be set free to inherit all of the blessings of New Testament giving? The choice is yours!
And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting (certificate of debt) of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Colossians 2:13,14
