Spectators, Fans, Cheerleaders, and Team Players
There are four groups of people in the church: spectators, fans, cheerleaders and team players. Its really no different than a football game, the same group of people show up, some come to watch, some come to admire, some come to encourage and some come to play the game.

Jesus taught in the parable of the sower that there were also four groups of people, those on the wayside or on the sidelines,  those on stony places, those among thorns, and those on good ground. The point is that only one group bore fruit, the ones that received the Word in a good heart and obeyed.

At a football game all four groups are excited about the game but the fact of the matter is that only the team players can really do anything about winning . The spectators and fans paid to get in and the only way to tell the difference is that the fans have painted their face or they are wearing cheese on their head. In most cases the cheerleaders are a distraction [ with the exception of my grandaughter] because normally the players can't hear them on the field and fans and spectators can't make touchdowns.

I said all of that to say this, there are a lot of people in the church, but  the only ones making a difference are those that have taken the Word of God to heart and become doers and not hearers only . Jesus gave His disciples a commission to go into all the world and make more disciples, not church members and to teach them all that He taught them. Multitudes of people followed Jesus but only His disciples, those that made Him their Lord received eternal life and have carried on the ministry even down to today.

Professional football players receive a check for playing the game and if they win the Superbowl they earn even more money ,rings and endorsements, the rest go home either mad or glad depending on who won. So where do you fit in the eternal Superbowl of life , are you playing on the field or sitting in the stands? Remember only those that play the game receive the gift of eternal life.

Its amazing to me that after all the miracles of healing, feeding the multitudes, raising the dead and walking on water that only 120 obeyed Jesus by waiting in Jerusalem for the promise of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said,'' Many are called but few are chosen.'' There are millions of people in the church today but very few really have a deep relationship with God , mainly because building a solid relationship takes time and effort.

Someone once said ,'' Its not winning or losing , but how you play the game.'' So it is with following Jesus, you're going to win some and lose some, but the goal of the prize will be well worth it. I remember trying out for the football team and how hard it was to be disciplined enough to show up for practice, learn the plays and stay in shape. Learning to fit in and be a team player was hard enough.

The Body of Christ is the same as a football team in that everyone has a specific part to play and if your not doing your part the whole team will suffer. You can't be a spectator, a fan or a cheerleader and play on the team. Your physical body is made up of many different parts all working in harmony with one another . If one part stops working the results can be very damaging even fatal to the rest of the body.

In the book of Revelation John refers to the church as the wife or bride of Christ. This best describes the true description of the relationship that Jesus desires for all believers. Only when there is true intimacy with God can spiritual birth take place. The purpose of Christ and His bride is to bring forth spiritual children raised up in the knowledge of God and nourished on the true bread of life.

The end of the age is upon us and the end of all things is at hand so warns the Word of God. The signs of the times testify that we are coming to the fruition of the coming of Christ. One of the definitions of fruition is the state of bearing fruit. Are you bearing fruit for God or are you standing on the sidelines cheering the team on? Its not to late to try out for the team, all you have to do is believe in the Lord Jesus, ask Him to forgive your sins and surrender your life to his care, He will never leave you or forsake you. If you haven't figured it out yet there are only two teams in this league and His team is going to win. whose team are you on?

And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.'' Blessed are those who do His commandments , that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters and whoever loves and practices a lie. I Jesus , have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.'' And the Spirit and the bride say, come ! And let him who hears say, come! And let him who thirsts come . Whoever desires , let him take the water of life freely.   Revelation 22 : 12 - 17.
