When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Phillipi, He asked the disciples saying, "Who do men say that I, the Son of Man am?" So they said, "Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Matthew 16:13-15

Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."  Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you Simon Bar Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in Heaven." Peter had received a revelation directly from the throne of God.

The revealed knowledge of God is the key that unlocks the Kingdom of Heaven, giving us access to the power and glory of God! Peter saw in the Spirit, having spiritual eyes to see that Jesus was indeed the Christ, the Anointed One of God! Jesus said that upon this rock, the rock of revelation He would build His church, not on Peter as many believe, or the Pope, or anything else, but on the supernatural ability to hear God in the Spirit!

We are supernatural people, having been transformed by the washing of the blood of Christ and baptized in His Spirit, we are seated in heavenly places and sealed unto redemption! No longer bound by earthly chains, we are free in Christ to live and walk in the Spirit having been given spiritual eyes to see and heavenly ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to us.

"Blessed are the eyes which see the things you see; for I tell you that many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and have not seen it, and to hear what you hear, and have not heard it." Luke 10:23,24

"And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of Heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in Heaven." Matthew 16:19

In order to walk on earth in the supernatural as it is in Heaven, one has to have the keys that unlock the power. Just screaming "bind that devil" doesn't cut it, anymore than trying to start your car without the keys. There is more than proclaiming what you think you know that is necessary to unlock the vaults of Heaven.

What did Peter possess that the other disciples obviously didn't have that opened his eyes in the Spirit to see? Peter always seemed to be the forerunner concerning spiritual things among the twelve. He walked on water, was present at the transfiguration, healed the sick and received money from a fishes mouth!

I believe the answer to this question is Peter had an obedient heart toward God and even though he was a rough and tumble fisherman his heart was pliable to the things of the Spirit. When he first met Jesus and had fished all night without a catch and Jesus told him to go back out and Peter, though hesitant, obeyed and they caught a boatload!

Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, "Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to you!" Matthew 16:22

"Get behind me Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men." Matthew 16:23

Peter had just received a divine revelation from God and Jesus gave him the keys to the kingdom and Satan was already turning Peter upside down trying to get the keys away from him! This is why we have to walk in the Spirit so that we will not carry out the desires of our flesh.

Jesus was explaining His mission to the twelve about His death, burial and resurrection and Peter rebuked Him, walking in the flesh and not in the Spirit and he opened himself up to a demonic attack! In order for the body of Christ to consistently walk in the Spirit they must put off the deeds of the flesh and give 100% of their lives and heart to the Lord. You cant just go to church on Sunday and be spiritual and then at work on Monday, act like the devil, it just doesn't work!

We as His people are a royal priesthood, endowed with the very power and glory of Heaven, given to us as sons and daughters of the King of all kings! If children of the King, why don't we act like it, why are we walking like mere humans and not a supernatural race of born again, blood washed, Spirit filled warriors for Christ?

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power. Ephesians 1:17-19
