Not One Stone Left Upon Another
"Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down." Matthew 24:2
The disciples were eager to point out the temple buildings to Jesus when He abruptly said to them that all that they were beholding would be torn down. Jesus wasn't just prophesying some future historical event, He was informing them that the "Old Covenant" was about to come to a complete end.
Everything was about to change, the old was being destroyed and a new and living way was about to be inaugurated. The entire "Old Covenant" was to be done away with and a "New Covenant" was to be established with no more dead ritual and ceremony and no more human mediation between God and man, all things were becoming new!
Man was freed from the bonds of the law by the advent of grace by the shedding of the blood of Christ. He was now allowed access to the presence of God without the need of a priest or clerical guide. By the death, burial and resurrection of the Son of God and the subsequent   anointing sent upon His followers, a new priesthood of believers was established and sent to shake the very foundations of this world!
Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. I Peter 2:4,5
Jesus allowed us access to the Father by a new and living way through the veil of His flesh and by the shedding of His blood. There is no longer a need for human mediation in regards to entering the very throne room of God. Every believer can come before God boldly to receive His abundant mercy and grace as the need arises. No longer is there a need for a man to go before God on our behalf because the old priesthood has been done away with.
As Jesus bled on the cross as the perfect sacrifice for our sin and ultimately rendered up His Spirit to God the angels ripped the heavy veil of separation in the temple from top to bottom signifying man's way back to the Father. At that point in history a "New Covenant" had begun, the old had been done away with and a new and living way opened the door of grace.
Free at last, no more temple, no more ritual, no more clergy/laity no more animal sacrifice and the law of Moses was made complete giving man a new liberty to be convicted of sin by the Holy Spirit and not the law of commandments. Jesus was now the High Priest and head of a new household of priests endowed with the Holy Spirit once reserved only for a human priest hidden behind the veil in the holy of hollies.
But you are a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. I Peter 2:9
Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Christ, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Hebrews 10:19-22
No longer was man dominated by an earthly priesthood of clerical leadership, but free to be led at last by the Holy Spirit of God. The "Headship of Christ" was established by a one time perfect sacrifice freeing mankind from the bonds of sin and the need of human intervention in regards to the duties of a priest. Jesus is our High Priest and we are His priesthood, anointed and ordained by God Himself.
The new temple of living stones now has a High Priest to lead them into glorious fellowship with the father and to become the living expression of Christ in the earth. The body of Christ had risen from the grave in Spirit giving new life to those who would become His temple and priesthood for all the world to see, a royal family of believers empowered with His Spirit and endowed with His Divine DNA.
The first century "Ekklesia" or community of believers had no building, no bibles, no leadership or liturgy to chain them down to a once a week, boring funeral service of dead mechanical repetition. They had life and the apostles gave them what they had received from Jesus, the divine seed of revelation planted into their hearts by the Holy Spirit. They met from house to house spreading this "New Way" leading thousands into the household of God.
Nothing they did resembled what we do today in the modern, consumer driven, spectator attended thing we call church. Meetings were spontaneous and filled with life and fellowship and there was no "Order of Service" to follow, only the leading of the Holy Spirit and the very presence of Jesus Himself. If we made love the way we do church, we would never have children, and our spouse would lock herself in the bedroom for fear of death by boredom!
Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected and not man. Hebrews 8:1,2
Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. Ephesians 2:19-22
It seems ridiculous for someone to rent a building, fill it with chairs, put a sign in the yard and call it church, but there is one on every corner. God's intention was to create a holy race of divine worshipers to become a living breathing replica of His Son Jesus in the earth and to become fruitful and multiply by giving Him spiritual children.
When we take a hard look at the foundation of God's "Ekklesia" it is covered with the blood of His Son and with the blood of the apostles and prophets, not to mention Paul who also gave his life for the living temple of God. Being organically grown in the fertile soil of the heart of man the Vineyard of the Lord of hosts spreads out around the world bearing fruit for God, but leaves no earthly shrines or monuments, only changed lives and new creations.
The Temple of God is alive and within the mystery hidden in God is revealed a Spiritual Man and a spiritual woman with the eternal purpose and destiny of birthing a race of spiritual children to ultimately establish His kingdom on earth. The divine plan cannot be carried out by using worldly methods and fleshly ideas fueled by the lust of man and there cannot be one stone left upon another of man made religion or else it will yield only wood, hay and stubble destined to be burned.
To me, who am least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ; to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places, according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. Ephesians 3:8-12
