PULLING DOWN STRONGHOLDS PART V
Having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Ephesians 6:15
In order to put shoes on a horse one has to do much preparation, trimming the hooves and cleaning out any debris that would hinder the installation of the horseshoes. Once this is done the shoes are nailed on and actually become part of the horse's hooves, so it is with the gospel, it becomes a part of us.
We too have much preparation in applying our gospel shoes, such as showing ourselves approved in handling and sharing the true gospel and not a false or watered-down version as many have done. The gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ has several important components that must be included for one to be saved, such as godly sorrow over one's sin that leads to conviction, confession, and repentance, without which, there can be no salvation!
The main point of the gospel is forgiveness for one's sin and generational curses, setting them free and making them new creations in Christ! So, with this in mind, preach on and share the good news to the lost that their sins are forgiven and the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ is available to those who believe and repent!
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who proclaims peace, who brings glad tidings of good things, who proclaims salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!” Isaiah 52:7
THE SHIELD OF FAITH
Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. Ephesians 6:16
The shield of faith protects us from fear, doubt, and unbelief thrown at us from the devil to demoralize us and cause us to be disheartened! When engaging the enemy one needs to remember God's many promises that will shield his heart from Satan's abusive attack!
When David went out against Goliath, the Philistine hurled abuse at him trying to bring fear down on him, saying, "Come to me and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!" David didn't flinch knowing the promises of his Father, instead of telling him he was coming to take his head in the name of the Lord of Hosts!
Fear not! Take up your shield and proclaim the word of God, strong in your faith, filled with strength and courage knowing the promises of God and the exhortation given to Joshua as he took command from Moses, "Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, (disheartened) for the Lord is with you wherever you go."
But You, O LORD, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head. Psalm 3:3
TAKE THE HELMET OF SALVATION
And take the helmet of salvation. Ephesians 6:17
The helmet of salvation protects our mind and thought life from attack and because we have been given the mind of Christ and know in our heart we are born again, the lies of the devil can't get in! Knowing who we are in Christ and not doubting is of the utmost importance in order to defeat fear, doubt, and unbelief!
In Zechariah 3, Joshua the high priest was standing before the Angel of the Lord and Satan was standing at his right hand to oppose him. The Lord rebuked Satan and because Joshua was clothed in filthy garments, representing sin, He told those before Him to take away the filthy garments and clothe him with rich robes, a type of the robes of righteousness. Then the Lord said, "Take away the filthy garments from him because I have removed his iniquity from him."
Then the Lord said, "Let them put a clean turban on his head." A type of helmet of salvation! This is a picture of us receiving the righteousness of God and the mind of Christ! This is our most important piece of divine equipment without which the enemy could deceive us just as he tried on Jesus in the wilderness! "If You are the Son of God!"
"Thus says the Lord of Hosts: 'If you walk in My ways, and if you keep My command, then you shall also judge My house, and likewise have charge of My courts; I will give you places to walk among those who stand here.' " Zechariah 3:7
THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT
And take the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:17
The word of God is the final authority and divine weapon of all believers but we must become proficient in using this two-edged sword! The apostle Paul told Timothy to show himself approved of God, handling accurately the word of truth and we must do the same in order to become effective warriors for Jesus!
When Jesus, our example was led into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil He used His weapon against him and defeated him. When the devil said, "If You are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread." Jesus used the sword of the word by saying, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.' " Then the devil took Him up on a high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and said to Him, "If You will worship before me, all will be Yours." Jesus said to him, "Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord Your God, and Him only you shall serve."
Now it becomes complicated when the devil uses the Word against Jesus and as I said before, he knows it backward and forwards and will try and use it against you! Then he said to Jesus, "It is written: 'He shall give His angels charge over You to keep You and in their hands, they shall bear You up, lest you dash Your foot against a stone.' " Jesus standing on the pinnacle of the temple said to him, "It has been said, 'You shall not tempt the Lord your God.' "
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
