IT TOOK A SKINNY RUNT TO KILL A GIANT..

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH A MIGHTY GOD!

But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." I Samuel 16:7

David, sweet psalmist of Israel, man after God's own heart, mighty warrior and eventually king of Israel began as an obscure shepherd boy in the fields of his father. When the prophet Samuel went to the house of Jesse to anoint a king after Saul's failure he inspected his sons but none of them fit the bill. Then he asked, "Are all the young men here?"

God chose a lad overlooked for greatness by men but precious in the sight of the Most high, not because of physical stature, but for his heart, a heart set on seeking and worshiping God. Most of the Israeli youth were proficient with a sling, but God didn't choose David for his skill nor his strength, but for his willingness to please and obey Him.

Through divine providence Saul had heard of David's gift to worship and play the harp and so he sent for him and his father Jesse loaded a donkey with provisions for his sons at the battlefield and David came before Saul. Saul had disobeyed God and an evil spirit was sent to him, tormenting him and the only remedy was the sweet anointed worship of David.

And so it was, whenever the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David would take the harp and play it with his hand. Then Saul would become refreshed and well and the distressing spirit would depart from him. I Samuel 16:23

THE HEART OF A WARRIOR

And a champion went out from the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, from Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. I Samuel 17:4

David had the heart of a true warrior of God and the confidence to defeat any enemy sent against him, not confidence in his flesh, but faith in his mighty God to vanquish his adversaries. Knowing who's battle it was he confidently approached his enemy, Goliath who was spewing out fear, doubt and unbelief, trying to stop David's forward motion.

We as believers have all power and authority over our enemies but before you engage be sure it is God leading you and not your own flesh. David had already killed a lion and a bear and knew the Lord had called him to war against God's enemies, Goliath being the first. I often warn people of the counter attack but few listen because of their spiritual pride and sometimes the consequences can be deadly!

The sons of God are led by the Spirit, so be sure of his calling and the anointing you have been given to war with the powers of darkness. If you do this you will prove to have the heart of a warrior, equipped for battle in the army of the Lord! Not by might, nor by power but by My Spirit says the Lord!

Then David said to Goliath, "You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. "Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord's and He will give you into our hands." I Samuel 17:45-47
