That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death. Philippians 3:10
The apostle Paul gave up his life as a Pharisee and all the benefits and accolades associated with the title to follow Jesus and his greatest ambition was to know Him and the power of His resurrection.
As I began to write this message the Lord showed me this scripture in a new light other than what I had previously understood it to be. Instead of focusing on the obvious power that raised Jesus from the dead, focus on what the resurrection accomplished for us as believers. The resurrection brought about new life in the form of a transformation or metamorphosis for mankind. In other words man was transformed into a spiritual being by the power of God through the born again experience!
Jesus explained this to another Pharisee named Nicodemus who came to Him at night to question Him, knowing that He was a Teacher sent from God. Jesus told him that he would have to be born again to enter the kingdom of God. In other words he would have to be born of the Spirit to become a spiritual man!
"Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of God. "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. "Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' " John 3:5-7
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. Romans 8:5
As Paul previously stated, his ambition was to know Jesus and to become a sharer in His sufferings, to know Him intimately in the Spirit and to share in His sufferings means all that He suffered rendered heavenly benefits for the believer.
For instance, by the stripes he suffered on His back being whipped by the Romans healed our diseases, for by His stripes we are healed! The crown of thorns on His head set us free from the curse of poverty and lack when God cursed the ground and said, "Cursed is the ground for your sake; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life. Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you." Jesus suffered and bled in seven specific places to give us freedom from sin and the generational curse, healing, deliverance and prosperity in spirit and in the flesh!
Although we may suffer in the flesh, we prosper and we are in perfect health in the Spirit because we set our minds on things above and not on the things of the earth. The sufferings of Christ have set us free from the law of sin and death.
But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. Romans 8:9,10
SPIRITUAL LIFE IN CHRIST
But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Romans 8:11
When we were convicted as sinners and confessed our sins, transgressions and iniquities to God we received the very blood of Christ by faith that washed away our sins and transformed us into new creations in Him. From mere human beings we were reborn into a supernatural race of spiritual beings made in the likeness of Christ!
If the true body of Christ understood who they really are instead of who some untrained and ignorant preacher or tradition told them, the world would be a much different place. No longer just old sinners saved by grace, we as believers have within us the same power (dynamite) that raised Jesus from the dead! Let that sink in!
Colossians tells us that we have been delivered from the powers of darkness and transferred or conveyed into the very kingdom of God and we are now joint-heirs with Christ, seated in heavenly places and sons and daughters of the Most High God!
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by which we cry out, "Abba, Father." The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. Romans 8:14-17
