Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:10-12

Contrary to popular belief we do not put on the armor of God as one would put on a suit of clothes because the armor becomes part of our spiritual being when we are born again. In other words, the armor is always on us and as we exercise its use, it grows. One example of this is faith, the more you believe the more confidence is gained and the shield of faith becomes stronger. Just like lifting weights, the more you lift, the larger your muscles become.

It is of the utmost importance for the new believer to learn about his spiritual equipment and his weapons of war when engaging the enemy. God has so equipped us to be totally ready to fight just as the Marine Corps after they have received their training. We must become aware of our ability to fight in the Spirit as well as discern the schemes of the devil! When one engages his enemy just as David engaged Goliath he must be assured of whose battle it is, God's!

As David approached the giant he had already killed a lion and a bear and his confidence was strong in the Lord! The giant however, a trained warrior from his youth hurled abuse at David trying to get him to doubt his spiritual strength and weaken his resolve! Fear, doubt and unbelief will try and attack you as you engage in warfare, but remember, God has not given us a spirit of fear but power, love and a sound mind! The mind of Christ!

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:13

Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth. Ephesians 6:14

To gird is to encircle or fasten, to invest, especially with power and authority, to prepare and brace. The word always tells us to stand, not to run and never to turn your back on the enemy, there is no armor for your backside!

The truth of God's word is His will for our lives and destiny to know His plan and purpose for His people. It is the training manual for life! The devil knows it backwards and forwards and will at times even use it to deceive you. There have been hundreds of denominations, cults and doctrines of demons started by taking scripture out of context! This is why we must study His word so that truth will gird us and surround our lives, protecting us from false prophets and false prophecy!

Jesus said that the truth would set us free, but it is the truth you know and understand in the Spirit that will set you free! The Bible holds thousands of promises for His people, but unless you know what they are and believe they are for you, they are useless to you!

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

Put on the breastplate of righteousness. Ephesians 6:14

The breastplate of righteousness guards your heart by knowing who you are in Christ. When one is born again he is counted as righteous by the Lord, not of his own but imputed by God! We are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.

Jesus began His ministry by being baptized by John in the Jordan river and immediately the heavens opened and God said to Him in an audible voice, "You are My beloved Son in whom I am well pleased." Then the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in the form of a dove baptizing Him with power from on high!

From there Jesus proceeded to enter the wilderness on a 40 day fast to be tempted by the devil! Satan is a fisherman and a hunter, patient to wait for a straggler, or the infirm, old aged and the very young! Jesus was exhausted, hungry, and thirsty and the devil tried to take advantage of His need by saying to Him, "If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread." What audacity for the devil to think Jesus didn't know who He was or to Whom He belonged! So, if he will try this on Jesus what will you do when he pulls it on you! Do you know who you are?

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. I Peter 5:8,9

"Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them." Matthew 18:18-20

The power of three to agree is the key to pulling down strongholds and setting captives free of demonic possession and destroying the works of the devil. In this day and time, it is unusual to find anyone willing to agree with you, but in the body of Christ, it is imperative that we stand in agreement in order to receive the power of God!

United we stand, divided we fall as the old saying states, but there is great truth in this statement! If one can put a thousand of the enemy to flight, and two, ten thousand, twelve can put 100 trillion of their enemies to flight! This is why Jesus chose twelve disciples because twelve is the number of God's government. When the one hundred twenty disciples, sold out to follow Jesus were in one accord and the Holy Spirit was poured out on them, the immediate result was signs and wonders that produced a harvest of 3000 people getting saved!

Jesus asked His disciples who men said that He was and no one but Peter knew, having spiritual eyes to see and ears to hear what the Spirit was saying, another key to defeating the enemy: a revelation! It was Peter who got out of the boat and walked on water, it was Peter who preached at Pentecost and 3000 got saved, Peter had revelation knowledge and was hearing from the very throne of God! Peter told Jesus that He was the Christ, meaning Anointed One, in other words, the source of power!

Jesus said, "I say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build My church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it. Matthew 16:18

"And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of Heaven, and whatever you bind on earth, will be bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in Heaven." Matthew 16:19

The rock that Jesus was talking about was not Peter as many suppose, but the revelation knowledge of the Holy Spirit! This is the foundation of the church of Jesus Christ! We must have eyes to see and ears to hear what the Holy Spirit is speaking so that we can be led by Him!

Christianity is a supernatural organism, a living breathing entity born of the Spirit, led by the Spirit and empowered by the Spirit! To try and walk in the natural things of the world will only result in failure, but to walk in the Spirit will yield supernatural fruit! The Word says not to lean on your understanding or logic, being of the world, but to be led by the Holy Spirit in order to reap signs, wonders, miracles, and supernatural results to your requests!

This is why being baptized in the Holy Spirit is so important to the believer to have his spiritual eyes opened and to see in the Spirit otherwise he will walk in darkness! Remember we don't wage war in the flesh, we war in the Spirit, defeating our enemies with supernatural weapons!

"Therefore, whoever hears (in the Spirit) these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock." Matthew 7:24

“So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built." Luke 6:46-48 (NLT)

In order to build a solid foundation, one must mix his concrete with just the right amount of water, too much and it won't hold, not enough and it won't set and so it is when building a spiritual foundation, the Word and the Spirit will provide a solid foundation when mixed with faith!

When dealing with strongholds or with principalities one must be on a solid foundation of truth and faith in order to defeat the powers of darkness. David went out against Goliath knowing who fought his battles and was led by the Spirit in warring with the giant who he defeated with his weapon of faith! Beware of the counter-attack that will come once you have engaged in warfare and stand firm on solid rock lest the enemy blows you away with his lies and deceit!

David was a brilliant military commander and a mighty man of God but at the end of his career he grew tired and didn't go to war and that is when Satan took him down with his beautiful neighbor's wife, Bathsheba. Happens all the time, even with the Son of God after His heavenly Father had spoken to Him in an audible voice saying that He was His beloved Son in whom He was well pleased. With the first engagement with the devil in the wilderness he said to Him, "If you are the Son of God!"

"But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the sand without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great." Luke 6:49
