A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not quench. Matthew 12:20

We've all been there, bruised, hurt, wounded, busted, disgusted and burned out! It is inevitable that as born again believers in the Lord Jesus that we will, if not careful, suffer these things in the kingdom. It is reported that well over 1500 ministers leave the ministry every month for various reasons, mostly from being overworked and end up burning out!

The church of the Lord Jesus Christ is a lampstand for all of the world to see, as it gives off the very light of God, fueled by the oil that flows from the throne of the Most High and delivered by the Holy Spirit. If you are either bruised or suffering burnout there are two things to consider. One, take time to seek the Lord about your journey with Him and are you working for yourself or for Him?

We can take on way too much for the sake of the kingdom and neglect the most important duty that we have and that is our daily relationship and communion with Him. I have met many who claim to be believers, they go to church every time the doors open and profess to know Him, but they don't spend any time intimately with Him, getting to know the One whom they confess they love with all their heart!

It would be like being married but never being intimate with your spouse, making for a cold and distant relationship at best. The danger of our neglect of intimacy with God is the oil of His Spirit which lights the lamp of our life and the cleaning of the wick which keeps the fire burning. With no oil we burn out and our light is extinguished, leaving us cold and dark.

"And at midnight a cry was heard: behold the Bridegroom is coming; go out to meet Him!' "Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. "And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' Matthew 25:6-8

"And while they went to buy, the Bridegroom came and those who were ready went in with Him to the wedding; and the door was shut." Matthew 25:10

How you have fallen from Heaven, Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! Isaiah 14:12

With the advent of a new TV show called Lucifer Morningstar I thought it necessary to set the record straight by exposing the deceptive portrayal of the most cruel and vile creature ever created who roams the earth today seeking whom he will rob, kill and destroy! First of all Lucifer, aka the devil, Satan and the serpent, was not sent to rule the kingdom of Hell, he was thrown out of Heaven for rebelling against His creator, the Most High God.

The show seeks to portray poor ole Lucifer as one who is growing sympathetic and showing a weakness in regards to the human race, wanting to help a detective by bringing judgment to those she is tracking, something that does not fit his job description. Judgment is solely up to God! Nonetheless he has a therapist that he whines to about his plight in the world and his ambition to change something that is totally impossible for someone who is un-repentant, un-redeemable and non-refundable!

Some time ago I wrote a message called "Sympathy for the Devil," a story about the true nature and character of the Master of Disaster! The Rolling Stones wrote a song about him and one of the lyrics was: "Pleased to meet you, hope you get my name, but whats puzzling you is the nature of my game!" Can I just tell you the nature of his game is the same as it was from the beginning of his war with God and mankind: to rob, kill and destroy!

For eons: war, pestilence, plagues, racism, terror, murder, genocide, abortion and sickness have ravished the world, all brought about by an arch angel filled with rage and hatred for God and His creation. From the garden up until now Lucifer has done his dead level best to destroy mankind and anything that represents God or His body here on earth. Do not be deceived by this perverted angel of light, nor give in to his many temptations, for his only motive is to destroy you and anyone else who crosses his path!

Hell from beneath is exited about you, to meet you at your coming; it stirs up the dead for you. All the chief ones of the earth, it has raised up from their thrones. All the kings of the nations. They all shall speak and say to you: 'Have you also become as weak as we? Have you become like us? Your pomp is brought down to Hell, and the sound of your stringed instruments; the maggot is spread under you, and worms cover you.' Isaiah 14:9-11

As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. Proverbs 27:17

To be rubbed the wrong way as the idiom states is to irritate or annoy someone and everyone has experienced this in people we associate with in our area of influence. The idiom originated by the rubbing of a cat's fur in the wrong direction, but with us God uses those people around us or those He sends, to rub us the wrong way, which is really the right way according to His divine plan.

Heavenly sandpaper is the way God rubs, polishes and even sometimes grinds down the rough edges of our lives and those fleshly characteristics of our old nature. The iron of a relationship with someone you don't like, maybe even can't stand could be sent by God to build you up and produce in you a godly patience or maybe a more compassionate, caring and merciful heart in regards to others.

I invited someone the other day to come to our fellowship and he said there was a man there that irritated him, so I told him that is why he needs to come, so he can learn to love those those who are hard to love. Jesus said that we are even to love our enemies and to pray for those who persecute us and treat us badly, even to those who put Jesus to death on the cross, He said, with His dying breath, forgive them, they do not know what they do.

So, the next time you complain about an irritating person around you, count it all joy because it may just be God working on a new rough edge in your life that needs to be sharpened! Rejoice because the Father cares enough about His child to discipline and to sharpen that which is to be like Him!

"My son, do not despise the discipline of the Lord, nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; for whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and scourges every son He receives." Hebrews 12:5,6

Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. Jude 3

To contend is to strive against rivals and difficulties or to struggle for the faith of the Lord Jesus Christ and His gospel! In this heavy weight division is the defeated foe, Satan, master of disaster, and we are the contenders, fighting an enemy who doesn't know he is defeated!

According to the scriptures the whole world lies in the power of the devil but we as believers have the power and authority to take it back and to rule and reign over all the powers of darkness, even Satan himself! The world would be a very different place if the body of Christ would arise, unify under the banner of the cross and contend for the faith. Empowered with the Holy Spirit and the sword of the word of God we are a formidable force to be reckoned with!

In order to defeat the enemy we have to first engage him on every level of spiritual warfare, allowing no inroads for him to hit us with a low blow, something he is famous for. Satan has showered the church of Jesus Christ with an array of tradition, false doctrine, false prophecy and a man-centered gospel leaving the body weak and blinded from his attacks. Our only hope is to rely totally on the truth of the word of God and the power of the Lord Jesus Christ led exclusively by Holy Spirit's voice!

Will you contend for the faith of Christ or will you shrink away in fear, hiding in a comfortable life not venturing out of the nest to engage the enemy of your souls? The clock is running as we reach the last round and the enemy boasts of his prowess over us, exalting himself and continuing to deceive and defeat the most powerful entity on the planet. Last chance for a knock out or will we settle for a TKO? The choice is yours, "Fly like a butterfly and sting like a bee!"

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal (of the flesh) but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. II Corinthians 10:3-5
