Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished that the scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I thirst!" Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. John 19:28-30

In the past few weeks I have been writing a series of messages and devotional teachings on appropriating the promises of God. I sincerely believe that many in the body of Christ do not understand what Jesus really did for us when He said, "It is finished!"

The last words of Jesus are a powerful explanation of what He did for us on the cross. The Greek word for finished in this scripture is "Tetelestai" and is translated, "Paid in full!" He paid the ultimate price for our debt of sin, He healed all our infirmities and He became a curse for us, setting us free from the generational curse of sin and death, inherited from Adam.

If you have ever been in debt you know what a heavy burden that can be, causing undo stress and anguish, sometimes leading people to take their own lives. In the natural, bankruptcy is the only remedy for the elimination of debt, it`s legal and if you file Chapter 7 most debt can be wiped out. The debt of our sins can also be a burdensome thing, causing conviction of heart and also much spiritual and physical stress. The only remedy for this debt is the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

"Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. "And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. "Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed!" John 8:34-36
