Then David took his staff in his hand; and chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag, in a pouch which he had, and his sling was in his hand. And he drew near to the Philistine. I Samuel 17:40

David was equipped, prepared and strong in the faith that God was going to give him the victory over this giant! His confidence was totally in God's ability and His desire to defeat Goliath because we must always remember, the battle is His!

The Israeli youth of David's day were proficient with a sling and David was no different as he chose five smooth stones from the brook, one for Goliath and four for his brothers. Our weapons are not of the flesh, being supernatural and as David's sling was a type of Holy Spirit delivery system and the stone, a type of the word of God, the target was hit by divine GPS!

David was ready to engage the enemy as the giant spewed out words of fear, doubt and unbelief to distract and demoralize David, but it didn't effect him, being confident in the Lord. Remember the battle is in our mind and the enemy has no power over us except what we give him. Many times we are overwhelmed by the shear size of our mountain, but Jesus said, "If we have faith we can move our mountain into the sea!"

And the Philistine said to David, "Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field." I Samuel 17:44
