PREPARING FOR WAR
The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over His people. I Samuel 13:14
First of all, are you a man or woman after God's own heart? This is very important to know as we look at one of the greatest warriors and military commanders ever to fight in this great conflict with the powers of darkness!
David, lowly shepherd boy, sweet psalmist of Israel and truly a man after God's own heart! An obedient son tending his father's sheep, David worshiped under the stars of the heavens building a solid relationship with God and preparing himself for what would be one of the greatest battles of his life, a showdown with a giant (type of the powers of darkness) and a long term battle with his future father in law, Saul!
Now, before you go off "Half-cocked" as my mother used to tell me, a term used to describe the half-cocked position of the hammer of a flintlock rifle, meaning to take a premature or ill-considered action, make sure you are prepared for battle! Spiritual warfare is not something to take lightly or to run headlong into without the proper preparation.
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty, I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress; My God in Him I will trust." Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the trapper and from the deadly pestilence. Psalm 91:1-3
