INTRODUCTION TO SPIRITUAL WARFARE

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. I Corinthians 10:13

Throughout scripture men have been tempted and fallen headlong into sin, creating a stronghold in their lives. A stronghold is something that has a strong-hold on your life, something that was created by your sin!

Pornography, gluttony, drug and alcohol addiction and thousands of other things people have allowed to gain a foothold in their life have created strongholds. Two of the strongest men in the bible were trapped by lust, Samson and David, both mighty warriors for God, but both were seduced and drawn away by their own lust that created a stronghold, leading one to death and the other, David, whose life was ruined by his sins.

My father used to say, "Possession is 9/10ths of the law" meaning if you are in possession of something it is easier to keep it in a dispute than one not owning said property. In other words when the devil has a stronghold in your life he in essence possesses you!

And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare (trap) of the devil, having been taken captive (possessed) by him to do his will. II Timothy 2:24-26
