INTRODUCTION TO SPIRITUAL WARFARE

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. II Corinthians 10:3-5

The spiritual battle is in the mind of man and though he fills his mind with the word of God, Satan sends in fiery darts, temptations and lustful thoughts to ensnare us. Temptation in itself is not sin, it is bait to catch you off guard and draw you into sin.

When you are tempted by a thought and you don't take it captive and send it back out, it will begin to grow and before long your flesh will react to it, causing you to sin. It is called the point of no return, that place where you begin to entertain the thought until you have a full grown beast as has happened to millions who dabbled in pornography. At first, just a little look, then a little more, until it grabs you and you are taken captive, trapped in the devil's stronghold!

This is how addictions begin, by experimentation, thinking you have it under control and then all of a sudden you are hooked! In my mid-twenties a friend offered me some cocaine and I tried it as I had with many other drugs, but this was different. Cocaine, I discovered doesn't make you high as alcohol or opiates do, clouding the mind or making you drunk or stoned, it makes you feel exhilarated and clear headed, giving you a euphoric feeling, but like trying to charm a cobra, sooner or later it will bite you! I ended up with a $2000.00 a week addiction that totally destroyed my life.

But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and sin, when it is full grown, brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. James 1:14-16
