God's Emergency Room
Now it happened, as Jesus sat at the table in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Him and His disciples. And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, "Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" When Jesus heard that, He said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. "But go and learn what this means; 'I desire mercy and not sacrifice.' For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance." Matthew 9:10-13
The sound of the far too familiar whine of the ambulance is blaring as it races to save another victim from certain death. The emergency room is standing at the ready as the paramedics move the patient into the examining room where a highly specialized team of trained professionals will administer their healing procedures in order to restore the patient to health.
Jesus and His disciples were like an emergency room in that they supplied healing and deliverance to those in need. Everywhere they went the sick would come to be healed of their afflictions and saved from their sins. The blind eyes were opened , the lame walked and the poor had their needs met and the gospel was preached to them. Demons were cast out of those that needed deliverance and even the dead were raised. No one was turned away because of race, creed, color or financial status.
The world has a medical profession and thousands of hospitals open 24 hours a day, 7 seven days a week to help those that are sick. Doctors, nurses, specialists, interns and assistants are trained and equipped to help virtually any injury or illness they are confronted with. These highly organized team members are always being updated on the newest technologies to enable them to provide the finest in care for their patients.
The church on the other hand although two thousand years old is only open about three hours a week unless it has a school and in most cases has no one trained to offer any assistance whatsoever to anyone in need. If you don't believe it just call one for help. Most often you will receive a recording that will give you service times and their address. If you need food they will refer you to the local food bank, counseling to a psychiatrist, sickness to the hospital and money to their friendly banker.
Is there something wrong with this picture, that the church of the living God should be so weak and unavailable to a lost and dying world that we offer them absolutely no help at all but another dead service? Where are the trained and equipped called out saints of Christ who are Willing to die for what they believe? Willing to open their hearts and homes and billfolds to a harvest of lost souls seeking help. Where are the warriors, those that will go to the very depths of hell to save the lost and to cast out devils, heal the sick and raise the dead?
I am afraid the Western church is in for a rude awakening when literally thousands begin to darken their doors begging for food and the necessities of life. Thousands of homes are being foreclosed and nice middle class families are being forced out into the streets, many having to live in their cars. The food banks and charities are stressed to the max and are beginning to turn people back to the church.
The problem is this: our buildings are not designed to do anything but hold consumer driven spectators and the spectators are not trained to do anything but show up. The fivefold ministry in the local church consists of the pastor, the secretary, piano player, choir director and the yard man. How in the world did we get into such a mess? The answer is that we have received a thousand years of dead man-made traditional garbage that stinks and needs to be thrown out!
For years I have been hearing of a new thing coming, a new song, a shift in direction, new wine and a host of other nonsense that amounts to nothing but idle talk. I hate to burst your prophetic bubble but the "New Wine" has already been poured out when Jesus was crucified and we came into a new covenant with Him, the problem is that we won't destroy the old wineskin and refuse to change into living stone vessels.
My suggestion is that we hold a giant country wide auction and sell our religious stuff, such as buildings, sound systems, church chairs, ( some of them cost in access of $150.00 ea.) and totally revamp the church in order to receive the harvest that is about to come in desperation seeking our help. We would have raised enough by selling our stuff to pay the national debt, and open thousands of functional missions that would become God's emergency rooms, able to meet the needs of the masses about to descend on us for help.
"When you give a dinner or a supper, do not ask your friends, your brothers, your relatives, nor rich neighbors, lest they also invite you back, and you be repaid. "But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind. "And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you; for you shall be repaid at the resurrection of the just." Luke 14:12-14
My wife and I were explaining our ministry to a pastor and his wife one day telling them that we reached out to drug addicts, prostitutes, homosexuals, ex-offenders and virtually anyone with a life controlling issue, they promptly told us that they didn't want anyone like that in their church. I could barely believe what I was hearing, that someone professing Christianity would reject the ministry of Jesus and blatantly state that these could not enter "Their Church"!
Folks I've got news for anyone thinking that the Church of the Living God belongs to anyone. How can anyone profess to own the very "Body of Christ" by sticking his label on it and saying it's his! Our modern day system of corporate, consumer driven, franchised, fast food Christianity is demonically inspired to hold the saints in bondage to a dead lifeless form of religious nonsense poisoned by the traditions of men and doctrines of demons.
We have become too religious to minister to sinners who so desperately need the gospel of Jesus Christ. We have cut off the harvest because they are not what we want: clean white middle class tithers. The homosexual, we have thrown rocks at, not trying to find out what their need really is and what makes them do what they do. We have yelled at the abortionists while young pregnant girls sneak out the back door to the next abortion clinic to remedy their problem; while not giving them the option to come into our homes and have their babies.
We have tried to close our borders to the Hispanic who come to us for a better life seeking the very country that threw them out years before. God has given His church every opportunity to repent and welcome those that he has sent, but I am afraid it has all been in vain, and now it is too late! The winds of tribulation have started to blow and the time to work is limited to a few saints that heard the call to the harvest. Those that have refused to come will suffer great loss and will have to struggle just to make it, while those who obeyed will rejoice with the Lord Jesus over their harvest of precious fruit.
I suggest that if this message stirred your heart and brought conviction to your soul that you repent of complacency and selfishness and obey the gospel to lay down your life and join your brothers and sisters who are already reaping the great harvest appointed them. Now is the time, are you ready?
"Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me."
"And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." Matthew 25:45,46
