Love suffers long. I Corinthians 13:4
To suffer long as the scripture states is to patiently endure, in other words longsuffering in those afflictions, trials and tribulations that come into our lives. The agape love of God allows us to suffer many things just as He has had in many cases to suffer long over us.
Throughout scripture thousands suffered through trials of persecution, slavery, torture and even death. The children of Israel suffered in the mud pits of Egypt for over four hundred years until God sent them a deliverer just as He will someday send us the Deliverer, the Lord Jesus Christ! The divine attribute of the ability to patiently endure suffering is ours in abundance as we journey through the many paths of this life, waiting on the faithful promises of God.
As the world witnesses the love displayed in us, will they see us patiently endure for them in our quest to reach them with the word of God and deliver to them the grace and mercy that we have received from the Lord? Will they see Jesus in us, or will we give up on them as many have done, not suffering long over them as the Lord had to do for many of us?
Therefore beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation-as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you. II Peter 3:14,15
