Fellowship With Demons

The things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. I Corinthians 10:20

Paul is addressing the Corinthian church about the importance of keeping their fellowship pure and undefiled as well as their taking of communion. Communion and fellowship are one and the same in that they mean to share something with one another. As the representation of Christ's body we have an obligation to keep our association within the confines of our fellowship holy and acceptable to God who dwells in holy temples.

God never intended for the world to be present when we meet together in fellowship and communion, a holy time of intimacy with the Lord, but for centuries the modern consumer driven, overhead conscious church has invited the world to come and partake of the holy things of God and wonder why He didn't show up! It would be like making love to your spouse in the privacy of your bedroom, the most intimate relationship a married couple can experience, the coming together to be one and the very consummation of marriage. Then all of a sudden someone turns on the lights and low and behold your entire neighborhood is sitting their watching you making love to your mate. I would liken that to the winning team pouring Gatorade on the coach after the game, what a shock!

Now I know that's a stretch, but that is exactly what is happening in today's church services. We have invited the world to watch us make love in the intimacy of the Spirit to our God in the privacy of His holy bedchamber for the sake of numbers. What would you do if your spouse had invited all your friends over to watch, I guarantee if you were forewarned you would flee the scene and that is what God has done, He has left the building. Programs, entertainment, drama and big name preachers have swelled the memberships of many of the "Mega" churches around the country but the presence of the Holy One does not participate in these extravagant works of our fleshly promotions because they are sacrificing to demons and not to Him!

The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion (fellowship) of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread. I Corinthians 10:16,17

PURGE OUT THE OLD LEAVEN

It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles- that a man has his father's wife! I Corinthians 5:1

Paul has a meltdown when he learns that someone is having sex with his stepmother and the church has ignored it and swept it under the carpet. Instead of sugarcoating the incident and making up some lame excuse or by just pretending that it never happened Paul is livid! He immediately addresses the issue by judging this person and exposing his sin to the body and delivers him to the devil for the destruction of his flesh in hopes that maybe he will be saved in the day of the Lord!

When was the last time you saw that happen in church? You think that would bring about the fear of God and bring the whole bunch under the deep conviction of the Holy Spirit. Today in our modern services that would scare the daylights out of our nice clean, white, middle-class seekers and there would be a mad dash for the door! Paul demands a purging of the holy sanctuary by cleansing the sinners and exposing their deeds because they were mixing the unclean with the clean and thus had defiled their holy communion with the blood of the Lord Jesus!

Paul is telling this body of believers to judge those that they are in fellowship with and to clean out those who are walking in willful sin because they are in danger of God's impending judgment. We act like we can do anything we please in the presence of Holy God, after all"Daddy" loves us and would want us to be happy no matter what we we do because we are His children! Sitting there sipping our Starbucks coffee in comfortable seats as little kings in the palace, free from any concern of what a holy God thinks about our childish and selfish behavior. If they had only read about the times "Daddy" destroyed thousands of His own children for profaning His sanctuary by defiling His courts with their sinful practices.

But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner, not even to eat with such a person. For what have I to do with judging those who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? But those who are outside God judges. Therefore put away from yourselves the evil person. I Corinthians 5:11-13

FOLLOW ISRAEL'S EXAMPLE

Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. I Corinthians 10:6

Paul again addresses the Corinthian church and gives stern warning of the consequences of disobedience and reminds them of the past examples that Israel experienced. Israel was judged for their immorality and idolatry. As stated in Numbers 25:1-9 God's people had begun to commit harlotry with the women of Moab and they invited them to the sacrifices of their gods and the people ate and bowed down to the pagan god Baal and the anger of the Lord was aroused against them. The results of their immoral and godless behavior was a plague that broke out killing twenty four thousand of God's people.

So it is today, the church is in bed with the world and we have sacrificed to demons by involving ourselves with pagan practices and by committing spiritual adultery and have completely ignored the word of the living God! We wonder why God isn't present in our services and why He doesn't answer our prayers when we invite the lost into His bedchamber and defile His sanctuary. We serve holy communion to anyone that enters the fellowship of the Lord without a care for what is in or not in their heart and expect the blessing to come upon us, but instead the wrath of God has broken out and death has entered His people.

Communion is fellowship with God and a sharing in the blood of His Son and it is not for unbelievers who defile His courts by sacrificing to demons and as a result they trample underfoot the precious blood of Jesus and insult His Holy Spirit. The church of today is infected with religious tradition and the doctrines of demons and has gone a whoring after the things of the world and the outcome is a dead and lifeless, ritualistic service of dead works! May a Holy God who is deeply offended have mercy on us!

You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord's table and of the table of demons. I Corinthians 10:21
