And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. I Corinthians 13:13
The apostle Paul is giving instruction to the Corinthian church on the use of spiritual gifts and exhorting them to have love in the midst of their pursuit of the supernatural, without which, it would amount to nothing. At the end of his discourse on love he urged them to abide in these three things: faith, hope and love.
To abide is to dwell, remain, to last, to bear, to endure and to make one's abode, in other words the believer is to live within the dwelling of faith, hope and love which are the divine attributes of the Lord Jesus Christ. In this fast paced world of microwave everything there is not much that encourages us to stay the course or abide in anything that is lasting because our attention span, according to a national survey is running neck and neck with the goldfish at 8 seconds.
Social media has poisoned the minds of those who have chosen to lead their lives by a hand held device being distracted from the reality of following Jesus. The believer has instead, followed the world and discipleship has been lost to the electronic age of virtual un-reality.
"Abide in Me and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me." John 15:4
