Equipped to Serve Part IV

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2

In a previous message I mentioned how the Marine Corps had renewed our minds to think like Marines, but in actuality they brainwashed us by replacing what we had learned in the world that would be a detriment to us in combat. So it is with believers, when we come to Christ we have to have our minds renewed by the word of God so that we can think like Jesus and not like the world.

What does Jesus think about and how do His thoughts differ from ours? In Isaiah 55:8,9 God says, "My thoughts are higher than your thoughts." In other words, God's thoughts are heavenly thoughts of peace, joy and love and as the fruit of the nature and character of God exude these heavenly fragrances, so too our thoughts ought to be about heavenly things. The world has brainwashed us with fear, doubt and unbelief, filling our minds with bad news of worldly affairs and chaos, bad reports and sickness causing depression and things that drive men crazy! Set your minds on things above!

Jesus said that we are not of this world and that we are heavenly, spiritual beings, ambassadors, kings and priests, new creations in Christ, destined for an eternal home in the heavenlies. The church today worries about politics and the state of the country as if that would effect us who are from another realm, whose eyes are stayed on Him!

For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ. I Corinthians 2:16

Your servant in Christ, Tim Laughlin
