Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off. And they lifted up their voices and said, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!" Luke 17:12,13

Within this scripture ten lepers were cleansed of their leprosy by the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus told them to go and show themselves to the priests, the reason was to validate their healing and to prove it was genuine, but also to fulfill the law.

Leprosy was considered to be a sign of uncleanness caused by a person's sin and when someone was cleansed he had to go before the priests to be examined and a sacrifice would be given to atone for his sins. This is why Jesus told them to go before the priests.

By appearing before the priests they would have seen that Jesus, our High Priest not only cleansed the lepers of their disease but He also had the divine power to forgive their sins! As the ten left they were cleansed by their faith, being obedient but did not return to thank Him except one.

"Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?" And He said to him, "Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well." Luke 17:18,19
