And when they had come to a place called Golgotha, that is to say, Place of a Skull, they gave Him sour wine mingled with gall to drink. But when He tasted it, He would not drink. Then they crucified Him, and divided His garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet: "They divided My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots." Matthew 27:33-35

The Roman crucifixion was a horrible way to execute someone in order to display their death and punishment to the world that brought fear on all who saw it! By the time Jesus was nailed upon the cross He had bled from His sweat glands, been beaten beyond recognition, whipped with the Cat-of-Nine tails 39 times, crowned with thorns thrust into His scalp and now, nailed to a tree!

The scripture states that He was pierced for our transgressions, in other words when the nails pierced His hands the blood that was drawn forgave all of our transgressions, trespasses and rebellious acts against His word! Transgression means: a willful deviation from the path of righteousness or a premeditated crossing of the line of God's law. Most crimes are committed with our hands and Jesus bled to cleanse us from our sinful conduct!

A horrible sight to see as the Lamb of God was nailed and bleeding on the cross for us all who deserved the punishment He was suffering for our sins, transgressions and iniquities! By His death and merciful act of compassion for a world steeped in sin and rebellion He died for all that we who received His mercy might be forgiven and born again to become New Creations in Christ!

Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded (pierced through) for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:4,5
