Coming out, He went to the Mount of Olives, as He was accustomed, and His disciples also followed Him. When He came to the place, He said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” Luke 22:39-42
Because of Adam's sin and all of mankind's expulsion from the Garden of Eden, Jesus, the last Adam would allow man's entrance again into the presence of the Most High by the shedding of His own blood!
The extreme pressure and stress upon the Son of God was so great that it caused the blood vessels in His body to break causing Him to sweat blood! Hematidrosis is a condition in which capillary blood vessels that feed the sweat glands rupture, causing them to exude blood, occurring under conditions of extreme physical or emotional stress. Severe mental anxiety activates the sympathetic nervous system to invoke the stress.
This is the cup of the suffering Jesus would drink as He began His fateful journey to the cross. Knowing full well what He was about to endure brought great stress upon Him, even asking that God take it from Him, but then He excepted His fate as the pre-determined will of His Father to sacrifice His life for all of mankind!
Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. Luke 22:43,44
