SPIRITUAL GIFTS

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. I Corinthians 13:1,2

Being a drummer I appreciate the greatest of cymbals, Zildjian, made of the finest brass and best sounding of the top three that money can buy, but even the best cymbal cant sound good with a three year old beating on it! So it is with spiritual gifts, many used by baby Christians trying their new found gift which is good because they have to learn, but it is the ones who tend to flaunt their gift but don't have the greatest gift of love!

You have heard the old saying about people who are so heavenly minded that they are no earthly good? Well that is so true and there are many who think and act so spiritual that they cant lift a finger to love their neighbor, which almost always turns them into judgmental hermits! Holier than thou! I know, I was one as most new converts are but one Christmas in our first residential program a former prostitute asked me if we were going to celebrate Christmas, I thought to myself, oh heavens no, not that pagan holiday!

Then she said to me that she used to get arrested every Christmas so that she could receive an apple or an orange and be warm during the holiday season. That did it, we dragged out the Christmas tree and all of our pagan ornaments and had the best Christmases you could ever have from that time on! Dead religion is a killer!

And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. I Corinthians 13:3
