Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall yet praise Him. The help of my countenance and my God. Psalm 42:11
Today in a world turned upside down, suffering through a worldwide pandemic and an economy that is on the brink of recession, it is easy to fall into depression and to become cast down.
The term cast down reminds me of a cast sheep. When sheep are heavy with wool and wet, if they fall, in most cases they cannot get up on their own and become easy prey for predators. This is why they are the only animals that need human intervention such as a shepherd.
We too need the great Shepherd to pick us up when we fall, who is mindful of our shortcomings and our many problems and worries similar to a sheep heavy with wool! Are you cast down, depressed or fearful? Hope in God!
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He restores my soul! Psalm 23:1,3
