ON THE JOB TRAINING

When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Matthew 16:13-15

Twelve guys walking with Jesus, sold out, left all-disciples and they don't know who they are following? Hard to believe but evidently true! Peter, on the other hand received a revelation directly from the throne, "BREAKING NEWS!" Jesus is the Christ (anointed One) Son of the living God!

Jesus was elated that Peter got a revelation from God and He gave him the keys to the Kingdom! He then proceeded to tell the disciples that He would go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and be killed! Peter with the keys in his pocket and pride in his heart took the Lord aside and rebuked Him!

I taught this in our Tuesday night Bible study on deliverance that sin can open the door to the devil! Peter had given the devil opportunity to enter him and Jesus turned to His star disciple and said, "Get behind Me Satan, you are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men." Pride comes before a fall!

And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. II Corinthians 12:7

ON THE JOB TRAINING

"But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty." Matthew 13:23

When the seed o f God's word is planted in good soil, a heart that has been prepared for it, spiritual growth will spring forth! Many have read the Bible, some even studied it or they have been to seminary and hold degrees in various religious study, and even Satan himself knows it backwards and forwards, but unless it enters the heart it will be of no value!

When the gospel of Jesus Christ is preached it is likened to a plow that will break up the fallow ground of the heart. Unless the heart of man is pierced through and convicted of sin it cannot be penetrated nor sown but will remain untouched. One must be convicted of his sins and come to repentance before the life-giving word can be rooted and grounded within him!

Rain and snow represent refreshment in the scripture but when they continue to cover the ground throughout the years without being plowed up, the ground becomes hard as rock. So it is with the heart of man, when one hears the Word over and over but never becomes a doer of it and not just a hearer his heart becomes hard and he becomes religious!

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. John 15:7,8

ON THE JOB TRAINING

Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. Matthew 13:22

The cares of this world are on the nightly news, available to choke the living daylights out of anyone who watches it and the deceitfulness of riches are displayed also as the stock market goes up and down like a roller coaster!

The parable of the sower is all about planting the Word in your heart and the various conditions necessary for it to become rooted and grounded in you! It is impossible to successfully plant seed in ground that is covered in thorns and thistles, it is just as difficult to receive God's word when surrounded by the cares of this life!

In order for one to receive the life giving word of the living God one has to shut out all distractions and anything that would interrupt your quiet time with Him! Set aside a time to be intimate with God and dedicate that time to read, meditate and absorb the revelation He wants to share with you!

But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root (Not the root) of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. I Timothy 6:9,10

ON THE JOB TRAINING

But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. Matthew 13:20

The seed of the Word will not sprout in a hardened heart! I have seen hundreds pray a prayer and for a time seem to change, but never become rooted and grounded in God's word and when trials come they fall away!

You cant sow seed on concrete, but when planted in good soil with water and Son-light it can break through concrete! Planting God's word in the heart of man takes as much preparation as planting in the earth! The soil must be broken up, watered and allowed to take root just as the heart must be convicted of sin, baptized into death and then resurrected into new life!

Salvation is not just an experience, it is a life long relationship with the Savior! Relationships take time to nourish and stabilize just as planting seed in the natural! In order to grow and become rooted and grounded one must develop a divine dialog with God by prayer, study, meditation and worship that will insure your spiritual growth!

As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. Colossians 2:6,7

ON THE JOB TRAINING

When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. Matthew 13:19

The wayside is that place outside the field that is being sown or the ditch on the side of the narrow road of which I have been in both! Today there are many outsiders who never quite get in the kingdom or hear the word so as to be truly saved!

Have you ever been sitting in church listening to a message and then all of a sudden you realize you haven't really heard anything the preacher has said? Well that's the enemy stealing the word out of your heart and at times it happens to everyone! Problem for most, it happens all the time because they are not on the alert and their hearts are hard and they are dull of hearing.

This is why we are to take every thought captive, especially when we are listening to the word lest the devil steal it! Be sober, be on the alert, always being vigilant so that the powers of darkness don't overtake you and steal the words right out of your heart!

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. I Peter 5:8-11

ON THE JOB TRAINING

And the disciples came and said to Him,  "Why do You speak to them in parables?" He answered and said to them, "Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given." For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. Matthew 13:10-13

Did you ever notice when speaking to someone about spiritual things that the ones who don't have eyes to see or ears to hear cant understand what in the world you are talking about? Some even think you are crazy speaking of dreams, visions and prophetic messages given by Holy Spirit!

The prophet Isaiah spoke of this and Jesus quoted it in Matthew 13:14-15 that people's hearts have become dull and their ears are hard of hearing. He also said they have closed their eyes! This is where most are today, deaf, blind and hard of heart in regards to the mysteries and spiritual wisdom given by God!

As we enter these last days upon the earth and all hell is breaking out around the world, we as believers must have eyes to see and ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to us. He will lead us through the trials if we listen to His voice, but if we harden our hearts we will perish!

"But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear; for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it." Matthew 13:16,17

ON THE JOB TRAINING

“When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.” Matthew 12:43-45

Willful sin is a dangerous thing to commit against God once one has been set free from its bonds! I have seen many who were set free from some form of demonic captivity only to turn back to its strong-hold on their lives and they become seven times worse!

Repentance is the key to deliverance from sin and its hold on ones life in which one turns away from his sin, is washed in the blood of Jesus and is set free from demonic oppression! Without repentance there is no forgiveness and without forgiveness there can be no freedom from bondage! Confess, repent and God's mercy and forgiveness will cleanse you of all unrighteousness.

To return to ones sin is spoken of in the scripture as a dog returning to his vomit! The blood of Jesus is the only cleansing agent to wash away our sins but to sin willfully is to trample on His blood and to count His sacrifice as unclean, an act which cannot be forgiven!

For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, (the blood of Jesus) but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. HELL! Hebrews 10:26,27

ON THE JOB TRAINING

And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. And they asked Him, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?” That they might accuse Him. Then He said to them, “What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” Matthew 12:10-12

Again, the religious crowd always comes against the supernatural: healing, deliverance and any miracles they try and use their traditional excuses of, "It passed away with the apostles!" But nothing has passed away because we have the same power and authority as Jesus had when He was on the earth!

When praying for the sick or the demon-possessed try and avoid any unbelievers access to the ministry at hand because unbelief will kill your faith and defeat what Holy Spirit is doing in the one you are praying for. On the other hand, sometimes Holy Spirit will perform miracles in spite of unbelievers being present as a witness of God's power!

Another warning is religious spirits will try and stop the ministry of healing and deliverance! One Sunday in a Baptist church the pastor was preaching when a lady had a heart attack and so he stopped preaching and went down to aid the lady when in the Spirit you could almost hear the devil speak to him saying, "You have to finish your sermon!" He stopped in his tracks and told the deacons to take her in a back room and pray for her where she later died!

Then He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and it was restored as whole as the other. Then the Pharisees went out and plotted against Him, how they might destroy Him. Matthew 12:13

ON THE JOB TRAINING

“Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. Matthew 10:16

You will find out if you are serious about following Jesus that the sinner will not be your greatest enemy, but the religious folks will be! Saved from a life of drugs and alcohol I wandered into a Baptist church that was about to experience revival.

I was on fire for Jesus but the older church folks quickly tried to put out the fire by telling me that I would eventually cool off and become just like them! The Pastor told them, "Leave him alone!" I was truly a thorn in their flesh praising God and testifying of His grace and mercy! One Sunday in praise and worship the Holy Spirit prompted me to raise my hands to the Lord, something that no one had ever done in that church and you could hear them gasp when it happened!

It was the talk of their Christian school on Monday that Mr. Laughlin had raised his hands! Glory to God! Eventually when revival hit, the old religious crowd left and when I was baptized there were over one hundred baptized that day in the lake! What a glorious time that was of fellowship and the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ!

And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved. Matthew 10:22

ON THE JOB TRAINING

And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease. Matthew 10:1

Many today in denominational churches steeped in tradition think that Jesus only gave power to His apostles, but that is not true, we have all received power from on high! Jesus gave us all the power available to us from the Holy Spirit!

The body of Christ holds the same gifts, power and authority that Jesus has and expects us to go and do what He and His disciples did because we are His representatives in the earth today! We must break the mold of the modern day traditional church by exhibiting the power of God to a lost world!

The true church of the Lord Jesus Christ is the most powerful entity in the world, having the anointing of the Holy Spirit available to heal, deliver and even raise the dead! As darkness descends upon the earth we must walk in the light of the One who called us and anointed us to serve in His kingdom, "On earth as it is in Heaven!"

And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. Matthew 10:7,8

ON THE JOB TRAINING

Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Matthew 9:35,36

This is the ministry of Jesus for His body on the earth now! We are appointed and anointed to do the greater works that He promised we would do in His stead! The world is sick and demonized, lost and descending into the depths of Hell desperately needing salvation, deliverance and the healing power of Holy Spirit!

As Jesus said, "The harvest is plentiful but there are not enough workers!" We need to pray for His church to be trained, equipped and sent into His harvest! The time for pew sitting, sipping Starbucks and having you ears tickled by Superstar preachers is over, its time to labor in the fields of harvest!

Its not your pastor's job, its your job and God expects you to go and do the work of the kingdom! The "Five-fold" ministry team of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers are supposed to be equipping us for the work of service! So, go!

Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” Matthew 9:37,38

ON THE JOB TRAINING

As they went out, behold, they brought to Him a man, mute and demon-possessed. And when the demon was cast out, the mute spoke. And the multitudes marveled, saying, “It was never seen like this in Israel!” Matthew 9:32,33

Casting out demons is a job I never wanted, but out of necessity I had to do it with many who came in to our residential ministry years ago! Prostitutes, topless dancers, heroin addicts, alcoholics, witches and some down right mean girls! One night a witch anointed our house with urine trying to curse the ministry! It's real folks, arm up in the Spirit!

When a sixteen year old picked up a copy machine with one hand I knew then it was time to deal with the demonic! From that point on we were in God's on the job training program. I've seen men and women writhe on the floor like reptiles, levitate, speak in another gender's language and generally throw fits of anger! We even had demons come at night having sex with our ladies and they couldn't tell if they were human or not!

If you are considering this much needed ministry of which all who are Spirit filled are equipped to do, then expect persecutions and counter attacks that you had better prepare for! If Jesus suffered these things, then buckle up so will you!

But the Pharisees said, “He casts out demons by the ruler of the demons.” Matthew 9:34

ON THE JOB TRAINING

While He spoke these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshiped Him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay Your hand on her and she will live.” So Jesus arose and followed him, and so did His disciples. Matthew 9:18,19

Years ago I visited a young lady in the hospital who had suffered much trauma with the loss of her baby who was still born and as a result her kidneys failed! When I went in to pray for her she was clinically dead on a respirator and the color of her skin was solid yellow.

I prayed but saw no change and went into the family room where the Doctor was telling her parents there was no hope. Then Holy Spirit spoke to me and told me to go back in and pray again, which I did and then left seeing no change. A few days later I heard the news of a miracle that she was healed and left the hospital!

Many of the miraculous things God had me involved with, most I was never allowed to see as they happened, but later they would manifest which kept me humble! Praise God! From those early days I learned to just obey, do what He told me and let Him do the work and He told me, "Your ministry is not your ministry until it is My ministry!" Amen!

When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd wailing, He said to them, “Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.” And they ridiculed Him. But when the crowd was put outside, He went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose. And the report of this went out into all that land. Matthew 9:23-26

ON THE JOB TRAINING

And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment. For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.” Matthew 9:20,21

In this devotional series the Lord reminded me that this is what we as His body are to be doing, "Following His example!" Throughout the gospel Jesus is training us to do what He did while on the earth, healing the sick, casting out demons and even raising the dead!

This is on the job training for the body of Christ! Do you remember the parable of the talents when a master gave out ten, five and one to His servants and expected them to multiply them with interest upon His return? This is the gift He has given us, the power of God to heal, deliver and to restore life to those in need!

The woman with the issue of blood had the faith to believe if she just touched His garment she would be healed and that is the faith we are to have in order to carry on the work of God's kingdom!

But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour. Matthew 9:22

ON THE JOB TRAINING

Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, "Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you." Matthew 9:2

Does sin cause sickness? Yes and in some cases so do generational curses that are hereditary diseases passed down through our bloodline. When you are praying for the sick always deal with a person's heart and have them ask for forgiveness and then pray for the ailment to be healed.

Jesus healed all disease and all curses were removed through the shedding of His blood on the cross as well as all sin was forgiven. To receive this great benefit we must appropriate the gift by receiving that which has already been done. We are healed, delivered and forgiven by His sacrificial death, burial and resurrection! Psalm 103:1-5

The Scribes and Pharisees always got upset by Jesus forgiving sin and healing disease because they didn't recognize Him as God! He performed these miracles for a witness of His divinity and His compassion and mercy for us whom He loves!

"For which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven you,' or to say, 'Rise and walk?" "But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins" "Arise, take up your bed, and go to your home." Matthew 9:5,6

ON THE JOB TRAINING

Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?” Matthew 8:23-27

Back in about 1985 we obtained a 20 acre farm in Springtown, Texas where we began a residential ministry for women and a home for un-wed mothers. As you know and if you don't live in Texas you have seen on the news that we have violent storms and tornadoes. The artic blast we just endured knocked out the entire power grid and thousands were without power! My wife and I prayed and the power was only out for 10 minutes! Praise God!

I learned early on in my walk with Jesus that He has given us all authority over the powers of darkness and even over nature! There were many times the ladies in the program saw me standing out in a violent storm with tornadoes reported coming our way and I rebuked them and they always turned and God honored His word and kept us safe! Several years ago a giant tornado was coming straight for our neighborhood so we prayed and when it got to us it jumped over our home and ended up trashing most of downtown Ft. Worth!

We as the body of Christ have been given all the power of the kingdom and Jesus said that because He ascended to the throne of His Father that we would do greater works than He did while on the earth! The reason we don't see many miracles is because of fear, doubt and unbelief! So, fear not, exercise your God given faith and believe!

Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19

ON THE JOB TRAINING

Now when Jesus had come into Peter’s house, He saw his wife’s mother lying sick with a fever. So He touched her hand, and the fever left her. And she arose and served them. Matthew 8:14,15

Jesus has gifted His body with power and authority over demons, sickness, disease and infirmity! He has given these gifts for us to exercise them in the earth as a witness of His grace, mercy and compassion for those who are afflicted.

My first ministry to the poor after being saved, filled with His Spirit and spending several years in church was taking a family I found living in the woods with three children out of their dire circumstance and provided a home. It was a major undertaking, but God graciously supplied the need from a newspaper story and they were given a home fully furnished, new clothes and shoes for the kids and a car!

The night they moved in I took a reporter from the newspaper by to see what the story had produced and when we walked in their daughter was sick with a high fever. I immediately rebuked the fever and it left her and everyone was amazed at the divine power of Holy Spirit and His grace and mercy! God is good and His mercy endures forever!

"Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed." Isaiah 53:4-5

ON THE JOB TRAINING

Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him,  saying, Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented." And Jesus said to Him, "I will come and heal him." Matthew 8:5-7

The centurion was a Gentile in the service of Rome but evidently had followed Jesus and had seen or had heard that He heals the sick. When Jesus told him he would come and heal his servant the centurion said he wasn't worthy for Jesus to enter his home but for Him to just say the word and he believed his servant would be healed.

Jesus was amazed at such great faith, especially for a Gentile to believe Him and take Him at His word! We should all as believers have the same faith that this Gentile had to have the audacity to ask the Lord Jesus Christ to heal his servant. Jesus wants us to believe! This is what we are called to do, the same things as Jesus did, heal the sick, cast out demons and even raise the dead!

We as the body of the risen Lord are His agents of healing and deliverance, called to be His servants in the earth! We are ambassadors of the very Kingdom of God! It is God's divine will for us to become the living breathing representation of His Son on this planet, to do that which He was called to do and even greater works than He did because He ascended to the Father.

Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you." And his servant was healed that same hour. Matthew 8:13
