SPIRITUAL GIFTS

To another different kinds of tongues. I Corinthians 12:10

The gift of tongues has been definitely downplayed over the centuries as being foolish or even non-existent, but it is very important to understand its function and to implement it within the church.

There are different kinds of tongues and although there is not a lot of teaching in the word concerning them, one has to operate in faith believing he has received it and the instruction from the Holy Spirit how to use it! I personally believe that everyone can have a prayer language to speak directly to God in an intimate love language between the two of you. There are also prophetic tongues that must have interpretation, and there are supernatural expressions of tongues as used in Jerusalem when the 3000 were saved.

As the apostle Paul instructed the church at Corinth, he said that tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe, but to unbelievers. And he also said that everything must be done in order so that if the whole church speaks in tongues that unbelievers wont think you are crazy which is the norm in many Charismatic churches!

But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty. I Corinthians 1:27

SPIRITUAL GIFTS

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. I Corinthians 13:1,2

Being a drummer I appreciate the greatest of cymbals, Zildjian, made of the finest brass and best sounding of the top three that money can buy, but even the best cymbal cant sound good with a three year old beating on it! So it is with spiritual gifts, many used by baby Christians trying their new found gift which is good because they have to learn, but it is the ones who tend to flaunt their gift but don't have the greatest gift of love!

You have heard the old saying about people who are so heavenly minded that they are no earthly good? Well that is so true and there are many who think and act so spiritual that they cant lift a finger to love their neighbor, which almost always turns them into judgmental hermits! Holier than thou! I know, I was one as most new converts are but one Christmas in our first residential program a former prostitute asked me if we were going to celebrate Christmas, I thought to myself, oh heavens no, not that pagan holiday!

Then she said to me that she used to get arrested every Christmas so that she could receive an apple or an orange and be warm during the holiday season. That did it, we dragged out the Christmas tree and all of our pagan ornaments and had the best Christmases you could ever have from that time on! Dead religion is a killer!

And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. I Corinthians 13:3

SPIRITUAL GIFTS

To another discerning of spirits. I Corinthians 12:10

In Philippi a slave girl is being used by her owners as a seer or fortune teller. The young woman is possessed by a demon who quite accurately identifies Paul and Silas as "slaves of the Most High God" who have come to reveal "a way of salvation." What is remarkable is the accuracy and understanding of the possessing spirit.

But whatever the nature of the spirit, it accurately identifies who Paul and his companions are and what their mission is. Yet, it can be cast out by a mere mortal who relies on the power of God. By casting the less powerful demon out of the girl, Paul witnesses the power of the God he worships. The discerning of spirits is a gift that can be learned by studying the word of God and by listening to what is coming out of a person's mouth, remember whatever is in a man's heart comes out of his mouth!

Paul discerned what spirit was in the slave girl by what she was doing, practicing divination, and so he proceeded to cast it out. Fortune tellers, diviners, mediums and sorcerers all have this spirit and it can be a deadly end for those deceived by it! My former wife used to visit a witch in Dallas named Johnny Bell long before I was saved and it gave out accurate information on the market, so many businessmen went to her. One day she told my wife that she saw her father-in-law with a red cross on his chest. Not long after that my father got lung cancer and when I visited him in the hospital I walked in and he had a red cross on his chest where they were giving him radiation!

Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling. This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very hour. Acts 16:16-18

SPIRITUAL GIFTS

To another prophecy. I Corinthians 12:10

Normally prophecy is reserved for prophets and prophesying is in essence saying what God says or speaking out God's word! But according to scripture everyone can prophesy and Paul the apostle said, "Desire earnestly to prophesy."

There are many prophets in the world today, many of whom are false as Jesus warned, so beware and test all prophecy! The actual gifting of a prophet is listed in the five-fold ministry and is a valid position of authority to train and equip other prophets to use their gift appropriately in the body!

True prophetic ministry is very much needed in the church for direction, correction and conviction of the saints and like the rudder of a sailing ship it steers the body through the seas of adversity and guides her to safe harbors.

Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge. But if anything is revealed to another who sits by, let the first keep silent. For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged. And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. I Corinthians 14:29-33

SPIRITUAL GIFTS

To another the working of miracles. I Corinthians 12:10

I would say that the apostle Peter and the apostle Paul both exhibited this gift of miracles. Since apostles are sent to found and lead the church of God, they are normally subjected to more persecution and retaliation from the powers of darkness.

They were both delivered multiple times from prison, stoning, being shipwrecked and both received visions and dreams! Their lives were subjected to miraculous acts of faith that wrought many supernatural works! In the old testament Elijah and Elisha had the gift of miracles along with Moses and many others who carried this powerful gift!

Be open to the leading of the Spirit, who knows He might perform a supernatural work in you! These gifts manifest sometimes in extreme circumstance where ordinary people perform supernatural feats of strength and exhibit miraculous works that intervene in peoples lives! With God all things are possible!

Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward,  how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will? SPIRITUAL GIFTS

To another gifts of healing by the same Spirit. I Corinthians 12:9

Healing, like faith is not reserved for someone with the gift because all born again believers have the authority in the name of Jesus to heal the sick and to cast out demons! Although someone might have an extraordinary gift of healing we all have access to God's healing power!

Some today think that Jesus only gave this power of divine healing to His twelve disciples, but that is simply not true. We as believers are all healed by His sacrificial death, burial and resurrection and we are all equipped to heal others by the baptism of His Holy Spirit who empowers us to lay hands on the sick, anoint with oil and to cast out demons!

The great commission commands us to GO and heal the sick, cast out demons and even raise the dead! This is available to all who believe and follow the Lord Jesus Christ! These signs and wonders are to open the eyes of the lost and to convict the sinner to be saved by the awesome power of the Most High God!

And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen. Mark 16:15-20

SPIRITUAL GIFTS

To another faith by the same Spirit. I Corinthians 12:9

Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the definition of hope is confident expectation. In other words that which we hope for, we expect to come forth! The entire universe was created by words of faith spoken by the Most High!

Everyone who is born again receives a measure of faith, but the gift of faith is a supernatural ability to perform and believe for extraordinary miracles! Don't get me wrong, there are no limits for us in our exercising of our own personal faith, but I believe there is a special gift of faith for those who receive it to do extraordinary things!

Don't let this message limit your ability to believe God for anything, but stretch out your faith into the never ending possibilities of God's ability to provide! There will be times when you may have the capability to operate in every one of the Spiritual gifts, so, be open and believe God for the impossible!

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.  SPIRITUAL GIFTS

For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit. I Corinthians 12:8

In the Abrahamic religions, the term word of knowledge is used to refer to the process by which God reveals knowledge of Himself, His will, and His divine providence to believers. In secondary usage, revelation refers to the revealing of knowledge about God, prophecy, and other divine things.

In Christianity, the word of wisdom is a spiritual gift and the function of this gift varies. Some Christians see in this gift a prophetic-like function. Others see in the word of wisdom a teaching function. This gift is closely related with the gift of the word of knowledge. Divine wisdom and knowledge both come from communing and meditating on the word of God.

In order to receive both wisdom and knowledge one must develop a spiritual dialog with God spending quality time with Him so that when the Holy Spirit moves upon a person to give either a word of wisdom or knowledge to someone the revelation will flow from the heart of God!

To know wisdom and instruction, To perceive the words of understanding, To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, judgment, and equity; To give prudence to the simple, To the young man knowledge and discretion— A wise man will hear and increase learning, And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel, To understand a proverb and an enigma, The words of the wise and their riddles. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:1-7

SPIRITUAL GIFTS

There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all. I Corinthians 12:4-7

We as His body have received gifts of the Spirit so that we can edify one another and testify to and exhibit to the lost the power and anointing of God! At Pentecost when the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the 120 they all spoke in tongues and the visitors outside the upper room heard them speak in their own language and 3000 were saved!

The Holy Spirit is like the conductor of a heavenly orchestra that has within it many instruments, all in one accord and in perfect harmony. Each instrument is finely tuned and led by His Spirit to play exactly what He wants played, just as He had all His disciples speaking in the languages of those who were from out of town!

When we are baptized in the Holy Spirit, God stirs the gift within us to do that which we are called to do, to fulfill our divine destiny on the earth. On earth as it it is in Heaven! When these supernatural gifts are utilized within the body there is a beautiful concert of heavenly sights and sounds that touch the heartstrings of those in the body as well as the ungifted and the lost!

Speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love. SPIRITUAL GIFTS

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant. I Corinthians 12:1

The gifts of the Spirit are likened to the organs of your body in that they produce different ministries in the body of Christ! In the natural body, the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys etc. all have different functions that give life to the body and so it is with spiritual gifts, they give spiritual life to the body of Christ!

Imagine that the body of Christ is the exact expression of Jesus in the earth and so we are with all the gifts of His Spirit in us to function as He did before His ascension! He is the Head and we are His body of believers called to do the greater works of the Spirit in His stead! Remember the apostle Paul said that we are ambassadors, called to represent the Kingdom of God on earth.

The true church of Jesus Christ is not a place to go, but a supernatural Person to be, to do that which is the ministry of the Spirit within the earth! We are His body and individually members of Him! So with this in mind set your sights on the kingdom and not on the things of this world because we are the supernatural people of God called to do His work!

That we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ. Ephesians 4:14,15

THE ANOINTING

“Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” Acts 2:36,37

The apostle Peter was exercising his newly received gift of the baptism in the Holy Spirit by preaching the gospel to those who had agreed to crucify the Lord Jesus Christ! The message of repentance pierced their hearts bringing conviction and they cried out, "What shall we do?"

John the baptist preached repentance as he baptized those coming to be saved and Jesus also preached repentance from sins in order for people to be forgiven and saved! Without repentance there can be no forgiveness nor salvation! The preaching of repentance has been glossed over with sugar coated messages of peace, love and prosperity!

The anointing allows us the boldness of the Spirit to preach truth which leads to Godly sorrow for sins and the result is the saving of ones soul! We must be filled and focused on the truth of God's word that sets a heart free from sin, iniquity and transgression!

Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38

THE ANOINTING

Now Elijah took his mantle, rolled it up, and struck the water; and it was divided this way and that, so that the two of them crossed over on dry ground. And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, "Ask! What may I do for you , before I am taken away from you?" Elisha said, "Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me." II Kings 2:8,9

This is a prophetic type and shadow of the double portion anointing the church of Jesus Christ was to receive in the future yet to come. Elijah was a type of Jesus taken into Heaven and Elisha was a type of the church who saw Him ascend into Heaven and then received His double portion anointing!

After His ascension the power of God was poured out on His sold out disciples, patiently awaiting the promise given to receive His Spirit. This powerful outpouring would empower the church to fulfill their commission and enable them to be able to do the greater works that He promised they would do in His mighty name!

Go! God's operative to reach a lost world with His gospel and to heal its sick, cast out demons and even raise the dead! Obviously we have lost this powerful anointing, satisfied to sit and hear of these things in the past that many of their leaders say has passed away! But it has not, it is received by people who desire to please God and obey His commands to be filled and to Go!

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. John 14:12

THE ANOINTING

‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy. Acts 2:17,18

This prophesy of Joel was being fulfilled before the people of Jerusalem's very eyes as the Holy Spirit was poured out on the 120 disciples. Since that time we have seen many prophetic events come to pass.

We are now living in exciting and sometimes terrifying times with a pandemic raging around the world and governments in turmoil including the US with the defunding of police to letting hardened criminals out of jail! The new normal is abnormal and people, especially the liberal left are trying to move America into socialism and anarchy. Lawlessness abounds as prophecy continues to accelerate us into the end times with the hope of the return of the Lord Jesus Christ!

As the apostle Peter preached to the multitudes using the prophecy of Joel as his message, 3000 people were saved. For us today this same message stirs the hearts and brings about conviction on the lost as we enter the end of all things! As Paul told Timothy, "Preach the word, in season and out!"

I will show wonders in heaven above And signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD. And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the LORD Shall be saved.’ Acts 2:19-21

THE ANOINTING

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil (the anointing) upon the head, Running down on the beard, The beard of Aaron, running down on the edge of his garments. It is like the dew of Hermon, descending upon the mountains of Zion; For there the LORD commanded the blessing— Life forevermore. Psalm 133:1-3

The psalm illustrates a type and shadow of a corporate anointing yet to come on the New Testament church and its Royal Priesthood. This is when the power of Holy Spirit is poured out on a body of believers!

Today you see it in churches and ministries who have persevered and labored in the fields of harvest receive a corporate anointing that settles on them giving them divine favor and a perpetual presence of God in their people. We experienced this years ago with our women's home when people would come on the property, many would come under conviction and weep. We also had a choir made up of ladies, many of whom had been involved in drugs and prostitution who would sing and literally bring Heaven down!

This corporate anointing is needed today to destroy the works of the devil and to save the lost. When the Holy Spirit was poured out at Pentecost on 120 sold out disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, 3000 people were saved! Glory to God!

This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses. Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear. Acts 2:32,33

THE ANOINTING

“I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Luke 3:16

Jesus was baptized in water as an example for us to follow and then He was baptized in the Holy Spirit, the powerful anointing that we all need for ministry! When we are saved we receive the Holy Spirit, but when we are baptized in the Holy Spirit we receive the power of God!

The baptism in the Holy Spirit is a separate experience apart from salvation and is received by faith asking God or sometimes by the laying on of hands. In any case it is of the utmost importance to receive it and to be empowered for ministry in the body! Many today don't believe in it and some denominations don't believe it even exists and so it is not even taught or made available.

Jesus told His disciples to wait in Jerusalem for the Promise and He ascended into Heaven and before long the Holy Spirit was poured out on 120 sold out born again believers! A mighty rushing wind filled the place where they were all in one accord waiting patiently and they were all filled with the Spirit and spoke in other tongues!

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:1-4
