EQUIPPED TO SERVE

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. II Timothy 2:15

The word of the living God is His will for you to know and understand your calling, your ministry, and your destiny! Many get saved and wander into a church and for the rest of their life, they are fed the traditions and doctrines of men and in many cases, demons!

It is imperative for the new believer to study, meditate, and discern God's word for himself so that he can tell what others are teaching him is true. Millions are deceived by denominational teaching and like newborn babies, they are filled with whatever is being shoved down their throats and end up filled with false doctrine! The tradition and doctrines of men! The word explicitly tells us to beware of false prophets, false teachers, and false doctrine!

I was witnessing an evangelical outreach on the streets of Nashville years ago when I approached a woman sitting down and asked her if she was born again and she about bit my head off and said, "I'm a Southern Baptist!" And that's the problem, the lady was a Baptist before she claimed to be a believer! Probably walked an aisle, prayed the prayer, and has been sitting in the pew all these years "Lost as a goose in a snowstorm!"

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. Psalm 1:1-3

EQUIPPED TO SERVE

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1,2

This is where most new believers stop, at the narrow gate, that entrance where the "Rich Young Ruler" rejected the Lord and refused to become a follower! This is where we submit our lives as a sacrifice to the Lord, where we lay down everything we treasure and totally surrender our rights to follow Jesus!

Christianity is not a democracy like America where we are led by successful preachers to be leaders and commanders of finance and become CEO's of God's "Mega" churches. This is a false teaching because Jesus taught His followers to die, taking up their cross and by losing their life in total submission to the King of kings! This teaching is not popular in this country because it speaks against capitalism and competition.

In the above-referenced scripture in Romans it tells us not to be conformed to the world but to be transformed by renewing our minds in the word of the living God! Renewing your mind is like renovating an old home, all the old interior, appliances and flooring has to be ripped out so that the new construction can begin, so it is with Christ, old things pass away and all things become new!

Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost? EQUIPPED TO SERVE

"You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in Samaria, and to the end of the earth." Acts 1:8

One hundred twenty sold-out followers of the Christ in one place, in one accord waiting on the promise of God to receive power to be His body in the earth! It is imperative that we receive the power to be His ministers, but this practice has been forgotten and has all but disappeared today in the modern church, replaced with the dead tradition of men and the religious doctrine of demons!

When I returned from Indiana everything changed and the Word came alive to me, and the love of Jesus welled up in me so that my whole outlook on life changed, and my world view had become His! I was a new man with a new vision and a new way of life, old things had definitely passed away and all things became new to me! I began to devour the Word and a man from the revival, Milton Green came down and taught me how to cast out demons. Milt was just a humble carpet cleaner who wanted all God had and I learned much from him.

Milt eventually met James Robison and took him through deliverance and he also changed and was set free. Together they began to hold seminars and hundreds were set free and delivered from all sorts of strongholds! This went on for several years and it was like going through Bible college for me and the Word permeated by very being, filling me with His divine wisdom and knowledge.

‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy. I will show wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’ Acts 2:17-21

EQUIPPED TO SERVE

"I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose, He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire." Luke 3:16

Upon receiving my salvation experience becoming a born again believer I was given a Bible by a friend and invited to the local Baptist church. The church I found out was in transition because their pastor was preaching a revival in New Albany, Indiana where God had showed up performing signs, wonders and miracles of healing.

It wasn't long before I was baptized in water and then began to seek the baptism in the Spirit that I had read about, but the church I was in didn't believe in it so I decided to go to Indiana and see for myself what God was up to. When I arrived at this typical Southern Baptist Church, I found out several ladies had begun to pray for God to show up and show up, He did! These people didn't know anything about the power of God and He just started healing people and saving the lost. People were quitting their jobs and showing up at church in the mornings, praying and then going out witnessing and people were getting saved!

The second night I was there I went to the service and the choir was singing and the peace of God permeated the sanctuary! My pastor got up to preach but couldn't and fell down weeping on the altar and people in the audience began to weep and wail and so I went to the altar and fell down myself and all I could do was weep in His presence! As I looked up I saw a golden cloud descend upon the entire place and all I could do was give praise to God and my tongue was being controlled by the Spirit, I wasn't speaking in tongues but Someone else was controlling my speech! I thought I was going to die, being nailed to the floor, I couldn't move as the Holy Spirit was filling me and what a glorious death it would have been!

Now when Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the house. The priests could not enter into the house of the Lord because the glory of the Lord filled the Lord’s house. All the sons of Israel, seeing the fire come down and the glory of the Lord upon the house, bowed down on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave praise to the Lord, saying, “Truly He is good, truly His lovingkindness is everlasting.” II Chronicles 7:1-3

EQUIPPED TO SERVE

That the man (and woman) of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. II Timothy 3:17

Once a person repents and believes the gospel he becomes a new creation in Christ and is ready to be equipped for his service in the kingdom of God. This is where the church has missed the mark, by not equipping the saints for the work of service! Equipping is not Sunday school as many suppose, equipping is training the new convert to be like his Master in all things!

Jesus said that we would do greater works than He did and if that is so we must be trained and equipped to know how we are to be about our Father's business, healing the sick, casting out demons, and raising the dead! For forty years I have traversed the halls of religion being in hundreds of churches of all brands, flavors, and denominations and in all that time I have seen maybe a handful of believers who were trained and equipped for ministry!

No wonder the world is lost, dying, sick, and hopeless! I can't tell you the times pastors of churches, many of whom were sizable would call me to cast out a demon! That is shameful and the reason is: leadership refuses to equip their people, fearing they might leave their church and start their own! Well, praise God that is what we as the Body of Christ are supposed to be doing; multiplying and replicating His church!

And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints (us) for the work of ministry for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect (complete) man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

Therefore if any man (or woman) is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new. II Corinthians 5:17

At 33 years old I was an absolute mess, having squandered a multi-million dollar business my father worked so hard to build and I sold out for pennies on the dollar to my brother. Hopelessly addicted to cocaine, spending up to $2000.00 a week, and taking multiple opiates to mellow out as well as smoking grass, hash, and opium, not to mention my growing addiction to alcohol, I was a train wreck!

I had become a habitual liar, thief and amateur drug dealer, selling exotic grass and coke of which I did most of, something that is a no-no if you are going to make any money! One night I was putting together a half-million-dollar marijuana deal that would ultimately set me free of any financial woes I had created by my addictions when a man knocked on my door and came in to tell me about Jesus. After proclaiming the gospel he asked me a question, "Do you believe God will save you tonight?" If anyone needed saving it was me and I answered, "Yes!"

Dropping to my knees I asked the Lord to save me and He did and the man left and I felt like a million pounds was lifted off of my shoulders, my burden of sin washed away by the blood of Jesus. The next day I realized that my vile mouth was cleansed, no more profanity, a miracle of deliverance, and on the road to becoming a new creation in Christ!

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. II Corinthians 5:21

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

"Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it."Matthew 7:13

Gospel means "Good News!" and the good news is this: your sins, transgressions, iniquities, and generational curses are all forgiven and washed away by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, both past, present, and future! Our part in this is we have to appropriate these sacrificial acts in order to receive the benefit!

Jesus nailed the Rich boy's sin of selfishness and greed when he said, "Sell all and follow Me!" This is the first component of the gospel: conviction of sin, the second is: acknowledgment of sin, and the third is: confession of sin. Once these three components are met, one can confess Jesus as His Lord and repent of an evil lifestyle, believing in the death, burial, and resurrection that set us all free from our sin and receive the Holy Spirit!

Once a person meets the divine criteria he becomes a disciple of Christ, lays down his life, and is then led by the direction from the Holy Spirit to follow Jesus! This is why there is no life in most churches, people were never saved from their sins and remain lost, blind, and spiritually dead!

"Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it." Matthew 7:14

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

"You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery,' ' Do not murder,' 'Do not steal' 'Do not bear false witness,' 'Honor your father and your mother.' " Luke 18:20

Jesus was answering the rich boy's question, eliminating the things people hold sacred but have nothing to do with salvation, such as, being good or keeping the commandments, which by the way, no one but Jesus has ever done! Then He hit the boy's idol! His wealth!

I don't know of a preacher who wouldn't have told this boy to bow his head and pray the "Sinner's Prayer!" (Every head bowed, every eye closed!) And then would have eventually made him a deacon and put him over the finances! But Jesus had nothing to do with this religious nonsense! He told the boy straight up, "Sell all that you have and give it to the poor and follow Me!" Simple, direct, and to the point!

Now before you cut me off, I know that many of you, including me, were convicted of our lifestyle and sinful ways and were truly saved! I remember the man who told me about Jesus, asked me if I believed Jesus would save me and all I said was, "Yes!"

But when he heard this, he became very sorrowful, for he was very rich. Luke 18:23

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

But what does it say? "The word is near you in your mouth and in your heart" (that is the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:8,9

The famous "Sinner's Prayer" prayed by millions to be saved and yet millions were deceived by it! Deceived how you say? This prayer was developed from Deuteronomy 30:14-20 which is an oath of loyalty and sacrifice of one's life, in other words, a total sell out! Today however it has become a magical oath that when one prays it, "POOF" you are a Christian!

Salvation and eternal life must be the most important thing in the world to obtain, so if it is that important, shouldn't we make sure that we get it right? Yes, of course, the Gospel of Jesus Christ has several components that cannot be ignored in order for one to be saved! If we could just go around leading folks to pray prayers like has been done in the modern-day church the world would be saved, even the devil would do that! Remember the Rich Young Ruler!

In our previous devotion, we saw how Jesus preached His own gospel to a man who was very wealthy and thought his goodness and obedience would save him, but he was very wrong and ultimately went to Hell if he didn't later repent! If we as God's agents of salvation are to preach the gospel to every nation we must do it right!

For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:10

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

And when Jesus saw that he was sorrowful, He said, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!" Luke 18:24

Jesus had stripped away all of the crutches and religious notions that the boy was holding on to. Goodness, and keeping the law is a deadly thing for a person to think that because they have been good upstanding citizens and have never murdered anyone or robbed a bank they have a right to eternal life! Many will be shocked on that day (judgment day) when they hear the words, "Depart from me you who commit lawlessness!"

Jesus saw that the boy was sorrowful, but it wasn't godly sorrow, he was sorrowful thinking he had to give up his wealth and selfish lifestyle! The preaching of the gospel strips away anything a man thinks will save him apart from repentance brought about by a godly sorrow that leads to eternal life. We are all lawbreakers, born in sin, cursed with generational iniquities, and bound for eternal punishment in Hell!

The gospel of Jesus Christ has been watered down, sugar-coated and perverted so that everyone can come in and fill up the sanctuaries of the rich and famous! Millions led to slaughter by greedy shepherds wanting to pad their pockets by leading them in worthless oaths, promising them health, wealth, and success! The apostle Paul told the church at Galatia that if anyone preaches a different gospel or perverts it, let them be accursed!

For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. II Corinthians 7:10

THE DYNAMICS OF DISCIPLESHIP

Now a certain ruler asked Jesus, saying "Good teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" Luke 18:18

To begin we must see and know what eternal life entails in order to obey God's commands to not only go, but to make disciples of Jesus Christ! Within this scripture, Jesus explains "The Dynamics of Discipleship!"

Today you can take a poll on the streets and ask people if they are going to Heaven and most will say, "I hope so, or yes, I prayed the prayer, or I was baptized, or I joined the church! All good answers, but Jesus told the Rich Young Ruler that none of these would render eternal life! Now I know what you are thinking, I prayed the prayer, I know, so did I, but the main component that is missing from this equation in many cases is conviction of sin, without which, the prayer avails nothing!

The truth of the matter is this: no one in the New Testament including the Lord Jesus ever led anyone in a prayer to be saved! This is why in the modern-day church many are lost, never convicted of their sinful lives, and never hearing the true gospel of salvation! Millions sitting in a pew thinking they are saved and God is pleased because they prayed the "Sinner's Prayer" that is not in the Bible!

So Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is God. Luke 18:19

DESERT

Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass. Psalm 37:5

For the past few months, I have shared almost thirty-five years of my journey with Jesus, through the good, bad and ugly and it has brought back many memories of His grace and mercy. The Lord has been leading me from this point to share the "Dynamics of Discipleship" that we all need to know as His body!

The main reason for all the miracles, signs and wonders that I was able to see and experience had to do with one important thing, the ministry of availability! I didn't have any special gifts or anointing that others have, but I did something that not many have done, I made myself available to the Lord! This is the very beginning of true discipleship, being led to follow Jesus!

Hopefully, within the next devotional teachings, I can impart what the Lord did in me and through me to help you be all that you can be in Him! You are an important part of His body, more precious than gold, and anointed with His Holy Spirit to do the greater works that He has ordained for us all if you will only trust and obey His leading!

The steps of a good man (and woman) are ordered (established) by the Lord, and He delights in his way. Psalm 37:23

DESERT

Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and feed on His faithfulness. Psalm 37:3

Doug the Barber was just a good ole country boy who lived and worked in a small country town and raised some cows, cut hair, and drank beer! There wasn't much else to do, so once a week Doug and I went to the sports-bar (a ramshackle old metal building) and played pool.

For years I was full of vision and passion, always seeking the Lord for opportunities to minister and to build up His kingdom, but now I felt the wind had gone out of my sails and my spiritual life was empty! Shipwrecked on the rocks of hopelessness! Anyway as Doug and I played pool I began to pray for him to become convicted of his lifestyle and come to the Lord. It wasn't long before he began to ask questions about the Bible and then one night I noticed he was drinking a Diet Coke.

I asked him if he had been convicted of drinking beer and he said no, he was convicted of not spending time with his family! I didn't lead him in a prayer or baptize him, I just kept sowing seed and eventually, the Lord saved him. You know Jesus knows how to save folks! Doug now witnesses and shares his faith with every man in town who comes for a haircut! All glory to God!

Delight yourself also in the Lord, and he shall give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4

DESERT

"Get out of your country, from your family and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you." Genesis 12:1

We were downsizing from a 3500 sq. ft. five-bedroom home with a pool, a 2000 sq. ft. metal building on 2.5 acres to a 500 sq. ft. one bedroom apartment in Mary Ann's hometown, Yorktown, Texas next to her mother.

Talk about culture shock, there I was sitting in the kitchen staring at a computer I didn't know how to operate and I didn't type and the Lord said, "Write!" So by faith, I began to write down what the Lord gave me, hundreds of messages and teachings that His Holy Spirit was dropping into my spirit. It wasn't long before I needed a website to contain all the Lord was giving me and so a company in Georgia developed one for me and I am using them today after almost fifteen years.

Yorktown was mostly Hispanic and about 90% Catholic without much going for it, a sleepy little town in South Texas full of drugs and crime. After thirty-five years of sowing, reaping, and gathering fruit for God's kingdom it looked as though my ministry was finished and I was all alone in another world! My only escape was playing pool with the town barber at a newly opened sports bar, just me and Doug!

Blessed is the man whom You instruct, O Lord, and teach out of Your law, that You may give him rest from adversity until the pit is dug for the wicked. For the Lord will not cast off His people, nor will He forsake His inheritance. Psalm 94:12-14

RESTORATION

"The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit." John 3:8

After we saw one of the greatest miracles ever, a man raised from the dead, our church began to have internal problems of strife and division. One of the parents wanted me to marry their son and his girlfriend who he had previously raped and I refused. They left and someone else married them and shortly after they divorced.

The winds of change began to blow and I was becoming restless and knew we were going to leave on a journey into the desert! The church closed and the men's home and we began to sell everything on the property. We had numerous sales and finally an auction to eliminate everything we could. When God begins to move and His cloud lifts you know there will be a change coming!

This wasn't the first time I sold everything to follow Jesus so I knew what to expect and was excited to be in His perfect will. Wealth and property don't matter when it comes to serving God, but pleasing Him is of the utmost priority!

As you do not know what is the way of the wind, or how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child, so you do not know the works of God who makes everything. Ecclesiastes 11:5

RESTORATION

And God said to me, "Son of man, can these bones live?" So I answered, "O Lord God, You know." Ezekiel 37:3

Mary Ann and I followed the family to Eric's room and we all gathered around his bed. When the respirator was taken out, his eyes popped opened and we saw that God had done a great miracle of restoration. We were not praying for him to be revived with brain damage, we prayed for a complete restoration of his mind, body and soul!

Within three days Eric was back at our home lifting weights and working out and was even involved in a sting operation with the local narcotic boys, helping them bust his drug dealer. Not long after this great miracle Eric joined the Army and went to Iraq and after his tour of duty he came home and I married he and his fiance and they now have a son and newborn twin girls, God is good!

Eric and his family, his parents and grandparents are all life-long friends and we all will never forget this great miracle of God's grace and mercy! Eric works for his father and is doing well as a husband, father and man of God! Praise the Lord! "With God all things are possible!"

"Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, 'Thus says the Lord God: "Come from the four winds, and breathe on these slain, that they may live." ' " Ezekiel 37:9

RESTORATION

The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life. Job 33:4

Our little church met at the hospital filled with faith, hope and love for Eric and there was a Spirit of peace that permeated the entire waiting room with our people reaching out to others who were also there visiting their loved ones!

We all with one heart believed the best for Eric, even though his situation was grave at best, but we went down to the chapel to have a prayer service for him trusting God for a miracle. On the way to the chapel the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said, "I want you to go to Eric's room and blow the breath of life into him!" I thought to myself, I have never heard of that but I am willing to try anything at this point. I entered the room and he was on a respirator with no visible signs of life, so I breathed on him and proceeded to the chapel.

There is power and anointing available when the body of Christ stands in agreement believing God for miracles and we certainly needed one now in order for Eric to live. At the end of the service Eric's Doctor called his father on his cell phone and asked that the family come to his room so that they could take him off of life support and in the natural that means, the end! But we don't serve a natural God, we serve a supernatural One!

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ who witnessed the good confession. I Timothy 6:12,13

RESTORATION

For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption. Galatians 6:8

Eric had secretly called his old drug dealer and had him drop off $200.00 of heroin and cocaine in my mailbox, a deadly mix in which he shot up at 1:00 am. Normally heroin will make you sick at first and with such a lethal shot Eric aspirated and choked to death.

When I found him at 7:00 am he had dried blood on his shirt, so I figured he had been dead for several hours! I had never lost anyone in all those years and I wasn't about to now as the Spirit was welling up in us all to pray and intercede! In about 45 minutes breath came into his lungs even before the ambulance arrived but he was still in a coma.

The paramedics examined him but by the look on their face you could tell they didn't have any hope for him, so they took him to Harris Hospital where he was put on life support. We called our little church and told them all to meet at the hospital to have a prayer meeting. They all showed up in faith and hope and we all gathered together in prayer!

RESTORATION

Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleaness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery. Galatians 5:19,20

The Greek word for sorcery translates, pharmakeia, where we get our modern-day word pharmacy and believe me the devil has a pharmacy in which he doles out poison of all types to anyone ignorant enough to try it! There is an epidemic in America in our youth who are hooked on heroin and a new drug, called Fentanyl. (Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 80-100 times stronger than morphine. Pharmaceutical Fentanyl was developed for pain management and treatment of cancer and is deadly when misused!)

Eric and his friends got caught up in the flood of heroin being pushed to high school kids who were easy prey looking for a good time. One night Eric, who was the only kid living with us at the time stayed up late with a pastor friend of mine who was visiting us on his way to California. They were singing and playing guitar and then finally retired about 1:00 in the morning. I was to wake the pastor up the next day so he could proceed on his trip.

Our home had four bedrooms and a living area downstairs and a master bedroom upstairs so at 7:00 am I went downstairs to wake the pastor and there was Eric sitting on the couch fully dressed, so I slapped him on the shoulder and said, Eric what are you doing up so early? When I got no response I noticed dried blood on his tee-shirt, so I laid him out on the floor and saw that he was dead! I immediately woke Mary Ann up, called 911 and we all began to pray!

RESTORATION

"Do not say, 'There are still four months and then comes the harvest'? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!" John 4:35

Again, the Lord had given me the desires of my heart with a perfect place to live and minister to those He sent. Whenever I was contemplating on a home I would always look to see how many people could live there, and how it could be used for ministry, I guess I was brainwashed, actually, heart washed by His blood and mind renewed!

The little church grew and many were transformed by God's word and we baptized many in the pool and His grace was upon us. One of the family's who came had two sons and the oldest had been hooked on heroin several times and we took him in believing God to set him free. Heroin is a vicious beast that starts out with a euphoric sense of peace and tranquility but as little as 3-4 shots can addict the unsuspecting with a horrible withdrawal.

Many of the ladies we ministered to in the women's ministry were given heroin by drug dealers and pimps to addict them and hold them captive and then would send them out making them prostitutes. Eric, the boy who came to get free in our home was buying heroin from this same type of dealer, a dangerous thing for a young, naive white boy to do. Little did we know that a spirit of death was about to strike one of ours in the dead of night!

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23

RESTORATION

"If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you. 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water." John 4:10

We began a homegroup with parents of addicted teens and before long we had about 60-70 kids showing up, some smoking dope outside, others making out in the cars, and some just coming to find out what was happening at the group, but as wild as it was, the Holy Spirit was definitely drawing them!

Although many just came to see their friends they definitely had the word planted in their hearts and some were saved, others convicted and still, others delivered. Anyway, it was a very fruitful ministry that eventually turned into a church. We moved the church out to our home on the west-side where we had a 3500 square foot, five-bedroom home on 2 acres, and a 2000 square foot metal building in the back.

It was the perfect setting, private, in a wooded area with room to take in young men addicted to heroin! The first five young men were friends and all got their dope from black dealers on the south-side of town. On Sundays, we assembled as a fellowship with mostly parents of addicted teens, and during the week we ministered to their sons in our home, dealing with their addictions, it was a divine appointment!

RESTORATION

For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. I Timothy 2:3

One of the greatest harvests is the prison system where there are tens of thousands of murderers, rapists, armed robbers, pedophiles, and serial killers! My kind of folks! Crazy you say? Maybe, but Jesus said to go to the least of these! I did and it was the greatest blessing of my life! Finally, a captive audience!

Felix, another one of Mary Ann's cousins from her hometown came out of a bar one night when he was a young man and the police began to chase him to arrest him for a DWI. Felix ran home and went in and the cop followed him into his home and Felix shot him dead! Felix was sentenced to death and sent to the Wynne Unit in Huntsville, Texas. It wasn't long after his arrival that Felix gave his life to Jesus and his death sentence was commuted to alife where he has resided for the past fifty years.

Years ago I visited Felix and he was involved in the chaplaincy program there in the Wynne Unit, one of the oldest penitentiaries in Texas that opened in 1883. Felix was a changed man, a new creation in Christ and it is a shame that he has not been able to parole out in all these years, but praise God he knows the One who holds the key! If you have never been involved in prison or jail ministry you are missing a great blessing and if the Lord leads, please, by all means, go and you will be changed forever!

For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all to be testified in due time. I Timothy 2:5,6

RESTORATION

For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if one died for all, then all died. II Corinthians 5:14

Our next missionary journey was to go inside a "Christian" motorcycle club, although it is sometimes hard to tell the difference between the Christian and the one-per-center! (Outlaw) Sometimes outlaw bikers such as the Banditos or Hells Angels wander in for one reason or another.

The leader of this club was writing scripts and he and his wife were on shaky ground and many of the members were on drugs, it was a flying circus! We did what we could by praying for them and building a relationship of trust. One day the leader asked me to go to their yearly meeting in Phoenix so I said yes and we drove out. When we arrived we were to meet an ex-Bandito named "Sanitary!" I asked, Why do they call him Sanitary? He told me he was the cleanup man for the club! (Hitman)

We met him at a restaurant and he was a really nice guy, polite and had a peaceful spirit. When I began to tell him that Mary Ann's uncle who was involved in drugs was de-capitated by a Bandito, his face turned white and he told me he was the one who did it! Help me, Jesus! Anyway, we had a good time and met some really interesting folks! Outside of the confines of "Church," there is a world so dark that you would never know it existed unless the Holy Spirit would lead you there!

And He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. II Corinthians 5:15

RESTORATION

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. II Corinthians 5:17

After Cecil's death, our prison ministry began to open up with new opportunities coming our way. It was Christmas time again, a very hard time for inmates away from their families. The Boyd Unit was a minimum to medium-security prison that manufactured things for the state with about 3500 inmates.

Our prison team consisted of two Hispanic brothers, Tony and Adam and Me and Mary Ann, a formidable force to reckoned with, for sure! I am sure the devil just shook his head saying is this all you got? Well, I have seen more with less, just ask David about Goliath! Anyway, Adam was a former Latin King, a dangerous Hispanic gang and he murdered his best friend by stabbing him in the heart as he looked him in the eyes!

I have the bad habit of tagging people with nicknames and I named Adam, "Baby-san" and he called me "Papa-san!" When Adam was sentenced and sent to prison he was mean as a snake, so to calm him down and humble him they sent him to the hospice unit to serve men who were dying. This is where God broke him and saved him, setting him free and changing him into a new creation! The old Adam died and a new man, un-recognizable appeared as a lamb! We completed our mission and handed out a card and cookies to all 3500 inmates including "Ag-seg!" (Aggravated-segregation) It was a good day!

Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. II Corinthians 5:16

RESTORATION

"And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me" Matthew 25:40

The weekend rolled around and it was time to change the dressing on Cecil's back. When I got there he had an entire Ace bandage rolled up and he poured a solution over it and handed it to me dripping on the carpet and said, "stick it in the hole!" I did and in a few weeks, the wound begins to heal and completely closed up. Praise God!

We began to take Cecil to church with us and my Pastor, David and I hung out with him and ministered to him and he eventually gave his heart to Jesus! We bought him a suit and he went to work and God blessed him and had favor on his life. One Sunday we had a picnic out at the lake with my home group and David's church and we were baptizing those who had been saved and Cecil was one of them. After I baptized him, as he was walking out of the water he cut is leg on a rock and because of a wound he suffered in Vietnam he didn't have much flesh on his calf and it got infected and turned into blood poisoning.

We prayed and he went to the doctor and they gave him some strong antibiotics and told him he could lose his leg. Cecil went back in two weeks and the doctor looked at it and said those antibiotics really worked, your leg has healed! Cecil told him, "I never took them I trusted God and He healed me!" Glory! Cecil was a real trophy of God's grace but eventually, he died of natural causes, and David and I did a service for him and praised God for His faithfulness in his life!

RESTORATION

"Then the King will say to those on His right hand, "Come. you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world." Matthew 25:34

Cecil, an officer and Vietnam veteran had been a prisoner of war for nearly five years, kept in a "Tiger's cage," a pit that would fill up with water so that you would have to stick your nose out of the trapdoor to breathe. During the day they would have to fend for themselves scavenging for anything to eat in the rice fields.

I'll never forget the day I went to Cecil's apartment in a very bad part of town and entered through a cloud of cigarette smoke where he was sitting in a dirty old recliner in his pajamas. After introducing myself I asked him what it would take for him to make it and he told me if he had a dog he would give it a try. The next day I went out and bought him a dog and his countenance immediately changed, he had hope for the first time since he got out of prison.

Through our conversations, I found out about his hatred for the Vietnamese people that was so intense that it was causing a sore on his back to become infected and had caused a 2"deep hole the size of a strip steak in his back. One day Cecil asked me to do him a favor and I said sure anything. He then took off his pajama top and there was this disgusting hole in his back, oozing yellow poison! He asked me to come on the weekends and change the dressing as his nurse only came five days a week! Needless to say, I prayed without ceasing for God to heal his back and set him free of his bitterness!

'For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.' Matthew 25:35,36

RESTORATION

Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by Your generous Spirit. Psalm 51:12

I continued ministering at Greenbay for several years and Mary Ann and I got married and together we were asked by the Chaplain of the entire Tarrant County Jail to do Angel Tree for the inmates at Christmas! This was not the one with the Salvation Army it was through Prison Fellowship.

You have to understand what a daunting task this was to get the names of 4000 inmates and their children's names in order to give out gifts! At the same time, there are about 1000 people leaving and 1000 coming in per week, so it is a miraculous feat to accomplish but through the help and grace of God we pulled it off and many were blessed by it!

Our next-door opened in the parole department where we began working with ex-offenders coming out of prison and giving out food and personal care products as well as providing turkeys at Christmas. It wasn't long before we had great favor with the parole officers and the Director of the entire parole department! Then one day we were asked to make a visit to an ex-offender, a Vietnam veteran who in a fit of rage broke almost every bone in a man's body and the judge gave him 5 years flat! (When there is a flat after years you have to serve the entire sentence) They told me Cecil was suicidal and for me to go and see what I could do!

"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do because I go to the Father." John 14:12

RESTORATION

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Psalm 51:10,11

God was restoring me and beginning to do a new thing in my life. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done, going through a separation and divorce and I know now why God hates it so much!

For those of you contemplating an affair or a divorce, please don't go through with it, because no matter how much you try, your life will never be the same and although God will forgive you, the consequences of your sins of adultery will follow you to the grave! While I was going through this turmoil I went out to dinner with the directors of Teen Challenge, my former employer and was telling them what was transpiring and the director's wife looked me in the eye and said, "You don't know how many people you have hurt!"

Wait a minute lady, I thought to myself, this is all about me, what do you mean hurt others? Well, trust me, like ripples in a pond when you throw a rock into it, they go out forever, and believe me, many will be hurt and wounded by your actions! God forgave King David of his sins of adultery and murder, both of which carried the death sentence and then He said to him, "You have given an opportunity to your enemies!" David's life and mine were never the same and I am still suffering the consequences of my sins after some twenty-odd years!

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness, that the bones You have broken may rejoice. Hide Your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Psalm 51:7-9
