OUR WEAPONS OF WAR

And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Revelation 12:7-9

As war broke out in Heaven it was brought down to earth by Satan's expulsion by the angelic host! Landing in the newly created garden of God the devil approached Adam and Eve who were the first family, totally unaware of his existence as he carried out his plan to deceive them!.

Appearing as a talking serpent the devil spoke to Eve and said to her, "Has God indeed said, 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden'?" She replied and said, "We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; "but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat it nor shall you touch it, lest you die.' " Then the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die."

The whole time this devilish diatribe was being spewed upon them, Adam, "Man of the house" just stood there allowing his wife to be seduced by an evil intruder! When Eve saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes and able to make one wise she took of its fruit and ate, and also gave to her husband, Adam and he ate! This is the beginning of Spiritual Warfare, Adam and Eve were both deceived and died spiritually and the curse of their actions caused all of mankind to be born in sin, in need of a Savior!

Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Revelation 12:10,11

OUR WEAPONS OF WAR

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints. Ephesians 6:18

When praying in the Spirit, the mind becomes un-engaged and the Holy Spirit leads us in an unknown language unless it is interpreted. The power of allowing the Spirit to intercede for us is the fact that He knows all things and especially what your need at the moment is.

Although some don't understand praying in the Spirit and others aren't baptized in the Holy Spirit, nonetheless when one allows the Spirit to pray, doors are opened for increased revelation, wisdom and Divine knowledge, especially in the area of spiritual warfare. It is like being on auto-pilot by allowing the Spirit to take over and lead us into His desired purpose for our lives!

If you are not baptized in the Holy Spirit then ask Him to fill you and energize you in the power of His might so that you too can pray in your own prayer language and defeat the enemies of your soul.

For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. I Corinthians 14:14

OUR WEAPONS OF WAR

And take the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:17

Jesus, our Mentor, Teacher and example used the sword of the word of God on Satan when He fasted in the wilderness. When the devil would spew out accusations and fiery missiles of deceit, Jesus would wield His sword saying, "It is written!"

Satan tried everything in his playbook against Jesus and every time the Lord would use the Word against him. When he attacks you with his lies and deceptive diatribe, use God's word to defeat him. We are under a constant barrage of lies sent into our minds by the enemy, take them captive and send them back and quote the Word to him and he will flee!

The word of the living God is the most powerful weapon in our spiritual armory, so show yourself approved as a workman and handle it accurately against the powers of darkness! Remember, the Word is alive and by it the universe was created along with everything in it, so be careful to study and learn it well so that you can defeat your enemies!

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

OUR WEAPONS OF WAR

And take the helmet of salvation. Ephesians 6:17

One of our most important pieces of armor is the helmet of salvation that protects our minds from the onslaught of the enemy's attacks! As believers we have the mind of Christ because our minds have been renewed by the word of God!

In Zechariah 3:1 Joshua the high priest was standing before the Angel of the Lord and Satan was standing at his right hand to oppose him. This is an illustration of how the devil accuses us and what God says to allow us to have the victory! Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, a type of our iniquity and sin, but God said, "Take away the filthy garments from him." And to him He said, "See, I have removed your iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with rich robes."

Then He said, "Let them put a clean turban on his head." A type of our helmet of salvation that protects our mind that has been renewed in faith to believe who we are, "The righteousness of God in Christ Jesus!" Just as God cleansed Joshua so He has washed our garments white as snow in the blood of His Son Jesus Christ!

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1,2

OUR WEAPONS OF WAR

Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. Ephesians 6:16

David, the sweet psalmist, shepherd boy and newly anointed King over Israel was sent to the battlefield with supplies when he heard the taunts of the Philistine, Goliath. David, although accused by his older brother and told by Saul that he was just a youth was already getting hit with fiery darts!

Goliath was armed to the hilt, a warrior from his youth, trained in battle and a formidable adversary to say the least. As David approached the giant he was assailed by accusations and an assault threatening him and cursing him, saying he would give his flesh to the birds of the air! David was undaunted with only his sling in hand and a spiritual shield of faith that God had given him that protected him from the devil's accusations!

So it is with us, the shield of faith protects us from the fiery darts of fear, doubt and unbelief thrown at us by our enemy to stop our forward motion and cripple us so that we can be defeated. David used his faith to defeat Goliath by hitting him in the forehead with a well aimed stone, guided by the Holy Spirit that ultimately brought down the big man and David proceeded to kill him and gained the victory for Israel!

Therefore David ran and stood over the Philistine, took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his head with it. And when the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled. I Samuel 17:51

OUR WEAPONS OF WAR

Having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Ephesians 6:15

In order to take the gospel around the world one must have the proper shoes. You wouldn't go in flipflops or barefoot because it would limit your reach to the masses! But this passage isn't talking about worldly shoes, it is explaining your preparedness to take His gospel to the lost!

When a horse is shod the hoof must be prepared by cleaning and trimming them and then the metal shoe is nailed on. We however are to show ourselves approved as workman who can handle accurately His word, including the gospel of Jesus Christ. Once we have learned all the components of the gospel, then we are ready to share it with the lost!

The apostle Paul warned the Galatian church that whoever perverted or preached a different gospel let him be accursed! It is of the utmost for us to learn what the true gospel says without adding to, or taking away from its content!

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes. Romans 1:16

OUR WEAPONS OF WAR

Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness. Ephesians 6:14

One of the definitions of gird is to invest with power and authority and the truth of God's word reveals to us that we have all power in Jesus name and all authority over our enemies! As Jesus is in the world so are we, being His body!

The breastplate of righteousness guards our heart from the attacks of the enemy trying to convince us that we are only poor sinners saved by grace and not new creations in Christ endowed with power and made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus! We are sinners, yes, saved by grace, definitely, but we are washed in the Savior's blood and made righteous by the finished works of Calvary! Praise God!

Remember the armor of God only covers the front, so never turn your back on the enemy who will take swift action against you, stand and look him straight on and defeat him with the power and authority of the Most High!

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6,7

OUR WEAPONS OF WAR

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles (schemes) of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:10-13

Although it is doubtful that you will ever engage Satan himself, be warned that there are more than enough devils to go around. Remember one third of the angelic host followed Satan in his rebellion toward God that led to his expulsion from Heaven.

There are tens of thousands of these angelic creatures assigned to rob, kill and destroy mankind and we have been given specific weapons and armor to protect ourselves. As the scripture states, we wrestle against Principalities or fallen angels assigned to a specific area, the territory of a Prince. Powers are referred to powers of the air as in Ephesians 2:1. Rulers are world lords or cruel taskmasters in I john 5:19. World forces and spiritual forces are also defined as rulers of the world.

The Word instructs us to put on the whole armor of God so that we can stand against the schemes of the devil, but the armor is not put on as you would put on a suit of clothes. The armor is given to each of us who are born again and as we exercise its use it begins to grow and becomes stronger the more we utilize it! It is like working out, the more you do, the stronger you get!

We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one. I John 5:19

OUR WEAPONS OF WAR

And the devil said to Jesus, "If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread." Luke 4:3

"If?" Was there any doubt about who He was? His heavenly Father had just spoken to Him from Heaven in an audible voice saying, "This is My beloved Son in whom I am well pleased." As I said before, this is one of the first attacks Satan will use against us concerning our salvation, whether or not we are born again.

You would be surprised to know that there are many in the body of Christ who doubt their salvation mainly because of sin, guilt or shame or they in fact are lost, only praying a prayer without the conviction of the Holy Spirit. This is why it is so important to know that you are truly born again and washed in the blood of Christ!

Jesus knew who He was and proceeded to war with the devil by using the "Sword of the Spirit!" The word of the living God and our most powerful weapon of war! Within the next few messages we will learn about our weapons and armor and how Jesus used them against the devil in the wilderness.

“Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke? Isaiah 58:6
