OUR WEAPONS OF WAR

“For assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” Matthew 17:20,21

Jesus is our model, our example and our leader and before He went into ministry He prayed and then went on a forty day fast. Prayer and fasting are valuable weapons when engaging the enemy because it causes us to focus on the Spirit and not the flesh!

In the aforementioned scripture Jesus is instructing His disciples after their failure to cast a demon out and said to them, "These only go out by prayer and fasting!" Fasting strengthens us and opens the door to the divine power of God that gives us the victory in battle without which we would be fighting in the flesh!

Jesus was about to enter the battlefield in one of the greatest battles of His life with Satan who came against Him at the end of His fast when he was tired, weak and hungry! The devil never engages the strong, he waits for the stragglers, the weak, the sick and the young! In actuality he doesn't have any power over us unless we give it to him.

Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry. Luke 4:1,2

OUR WEAPONS OF WAR

When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.” Luke 3;21,22

Jesus was about to begin His ministry when after He was baptized in water by John the heavens opened up and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him, baptizing Him with "Divine power" and then His Father said to Him, "You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased!" Jesus would begin by receiving power and knowing who He was and to whom He belonged!

The first two most important things that pertain to spiritual warfare is being baptized in the Holy Spirit and knowing who you are in Christ! If you are born again and washed in the blood of Christ you belong to God and by this you know that you know that you are His! If you have any doubts the enemy will use it against you and defeat you before you ever begin to fight!

Many a man and woman of God have been defeated by Satan's accusations that bring about fear, doubt and unbelief that ultimately leave them powerless! Before you take another step be sure to cleanse your heart before God of all unconfessed sin and give your whole heart to Him, asking for forgiveness and then by repenting and turning away from your sins and iniquities!

“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3

OUR WEAPONS OF WAR

I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Matthew 3:11

Our most powerful weapon of spiritual war is the Holy Spirit, without witch we could not fight the powers of darkness. In the Marine Corps they had us fire many of the weapons in their arsenal, but none of these mighty weapons were any good without ammunition!

The Holy Spirit is our Divine ammunition that gives us power to defeat our enemies. The Greek word for power, dunamis actually is translated, dynamite! When the Bible uses the word dunamis, it never refers to our strength or ability but rather to His power through us. It is His power alone that keeps us, while forming our character as we glorify Him.

As we look at our powerful arsenal of spiritual weapons we must realize that the battle ultimately is His and He will prevail! Our part is to submit to His will in everything and be baptized in His Holy Spirit!

O give us help against the adversary, for deliverance by man is in vain. Through God we shall do valiantly, and it is He who will tread down our adversaries. Psalm 60:11,12

OUR WEAPONS OF WAR

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds. II Corinthians 10:3,4

We as the body of Christ are embroiled in a spiritual war, fighting an unseen force of evil spirits who have come to rob, kill and destroy this world! Ever since Satan fell from Heaven thousands of years ago mankind has had to war against the hordes of Hell!

The Word tells us that our weapons are mighty in God for pulling down strongholds and the battle ultimately is in His hands! When one enters the military he is trained in warfare and is issued weapons to fight his enemies and so it is with us. When we are born again, baptized in water and raised from our fleshly graves we then need to be baptized in the Holy Spirit and fire!

In order to fight a spiritual battle it is imperative for one to be baptized in the Holy Spirit which brings about spiritual discernment, spiritual sight and power that breaks the yokes of bondage and pulls down strongholds! The baptism of the Holy Spirit is a free gift given to all believers who ask for His anointing power!

If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him! Matthew 7:11

THE STEPS TO DELIVERANCE

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me. Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom. Psalm 51:5,6

When taking the steps to deliverance we must not forget the generational curse we are all born with! David is confessing before the Lord and also remembering that he was brought forth in iniquity the sins of his forefathers.

All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God because of Adam's sin in the garden and no one can escape the consequences of eternal damnation if not repented of, because we are all held liable and this is why we must be born again! Only by confessing the sins of our un-faithful ancestors and receiving the cleansing blood of Jesus can we be set free from the generational curse.

You have heard the old saying, "Born to lose" because we are born in sin but God says to all who are saved and forgiven, we are "Born to win!" All because of the substitutionary death of the Lord Jesus Christ who took our sins and punishment so that we could be free!

“You shall have no other gods before Me. “You shall not make for yourself a carved image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. Exodus 20:3-6

THE STEPS TO DELIVERANCE

For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done this evil in Your sight— That You may be found just when You speak, and blameless when You judge. Psalm 51:3,4

Confession cleanses the soul and prepares the way for the forgiveness of God. Confession is often times equated with repentance but it is not the same thing, repentance is the turning away from sin that brings about deliverance.

When one opens himself up to sin, a demon enters his soul and begins to destroy the person from the inside out just as a parasite would and also allows other demons to enter such as sickness, disease and infirmity. Demons are the righteous judgment of God! Remember David's father-in-law, King Saul who disobeyed God. The Holy Spirit was taken from him and an evil spirit was sent from God to torment him, which eventually led to his demise!

If demons are allowed to stay within a person without the confession and repentance of the person's sin, possession will be inevitable. This is why the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. The wrath of God (demons) comes upon the sons of disobedience.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I John 1:9

THE STEPS TO DELIVERANCE

Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. Psalm 51:1,2

King David was convicted of his sins by a message from God given by Nathan the prophet. Like a sharp sword the word went deep into his heart bringing about a Godly sorrow for his sins and he fell to his knees and cried out for mercy!

The first step to deliverance is to cry out for mercy, submitting to the voice of Holy Spirit's conviction and confessing ones sins and transgressions to the Most High whom we have offended! David had committed two sins worthy of death and his only hope for redemption was to cry out to God for His mercy and grace for forgiveness!

God heard David's cry and forgave him although the consequences of his actions followed him to the grave! Judgment fell upon their son and he died and throughout his life there was much trauma from within his family and from his enemies! "It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God!"

So David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die. However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you shall surely die.” II Samuel 12:13,14

THE STEPS TO DELIVERANCE

O Lord do not rebuke me in Your wrath, nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure! For Your arrows pierce me deeply, and Your hand presses me down. Psalm 38:1,2

Although the Holy Spirit was bringing about rebuke and displeasure upon David and his relationship with God was shut off, David remained stubborn and refused to repent! For over a year he refused to acknowledge his sin until he was approached by the prophet Nathan!

Stubbornness hardens the heart and produces spiritual blindness and deafness that drowns out the conviction of the Holy Spirit. David was miserable, being a man who had a deep relationship with God, but now a deafening silence from the throne of the Most High! Bathsheba delivered a son and it seemed the affair and murder of her husband was buried and forgotten until God sent His prophet to expose the deeds of darkness!

Nathan showed up asking for an audience with the King and proceeded to tell David about a man who had a friend stay the night with him and took the only pet lamb his servant had rather than from his own flocks of sheep. He had it killed it and served it up and David stood up demanding that the man who did this should die! Nathan then said to him, "You are the man!" Convicted, he fell to his knees and confessed before God!

There is no soundness in my flesh because of Your anger, nor any health in my bones because of my sin. For my iniquities have gone over my head; like a heavy burden they are too heavy for me. My wounds are foul and festering because of my foolishness. Psalm 38:3,4

THE STEPS TO DELIVERANCE

For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame. Hebrews 6:4-6

Callousness is when the heart is hardened by sin and disobedience and like a plowed field that has been rained on and been blanketed by the cold snow of winter it becomes hardened! The danger of willful sin is the heart becoming so hard that it cant return to be softened by Holy Spirit's loving presence!

Beware, because a man after God's own heart went from being the sweet psalmist of Israel to a murderer and adulterer in an instant! The hardening of the heart can happen over time or in David's case very fast depending on the sin. One sin led to another from an affair to murder, disobedience causes one to justify their actions and to hide their sin but as the scripture states, "Your sin will find you out!"

When we sin against God our relationship is broken and like a married couple when they have an argument, neither one will talk to the other and so it is with God. Like Samson when he sinned his eyes were gouged out and he could no longer see and if a believer is led by the Spirit when he sins he walks like a blind man!

For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs (fruit) useful for those by whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from God; but if it bears thorns and briers, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose end is to be burned. Hebrews 6:7,8

THE STEPS TO DELIVERANCE

With her enticing speech she caused him to yield, with her flattering lips she seduced him. Immediately he went after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks. Proverbs 7:21,22

Impulsiveness is a curse I have lived with and have to fight off with the word of God and by taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ! In other words, think before you act and look at what the outcome will be! David, although a mighty warrior was an emotional man with a gift of praise and worship and inside that rough exterior was a tender heart!

Being impulsive throws all caution to the wind when the lust for sexual pleasure takes over a person's heart. All alone on his balcony with no one watching, the devil poured his deadly diatribe of excuses and justifications into David's mind causing him to act without thinking of the consequences! The point of no return is when thoughts turn to action and desire is out of control and the body reacts and then it is too late!

Trapped like a wild beast David was seduced by demons and fell for the devil's scheme to bring him down and David fell for it, hook, line and sinker! A man after God's own heart was suddenly brought down into a cloud of darkness and deceit, caught in the snare of the trapper!

But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. James 1:14,15

THE STEPS TO DELIVERANCE

Guard your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23

The second open door to David's demise was carelessness, a dangerous trait to have adopted around a wild beast. Just as you wouldn't leave the door to your house open and unlocked you have to guard your heart from all intrusions.

David had many wounds that caused much trauma in his life beginning with the disdain of his brothers, the neglect of his father, Saul's pursuit to kill him and the drama of multiple wives. David was one wounded puppy, wide open to a full frontal attack by the enemy. Men don't equate a beautiful naked woman with a wild beast but that is exactly what Bathsheba was and unbeknownst to her she would take him down!

On the night of David's affair his heart was wide open, his armor on the ground and his sword in its sheath that left him defenseless to the charms of this beautiful seductress. Do you not think that Bathsheba didn't know David was watching her with lust welling up in his heart and she used all of her beauty to lure him into her trap set by the devil himself?

For the lips of an immoral woman drip honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil; but in the end she is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to death, her steps lay hold of hell. Proverbs 5:3-5

THE STEPS TO DELIVERANCE

Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Mark 14:38

There are many doors that allow the devil entrance into ones life but there are five which brought David down. The first was idleness, a state of being idle or complacent, the act of letting your guard down. You have heard the old saying, "An idle mind is the devil's workshop."

First of all we have the mind of Christ, a mind set on things above and not on the earth! Our minds are to be filled with God's word and our thoughts are to be inventoried and cleansed if need be. In the garden the devil took advantage of Adam and Eve by getting them to doubt what God had commanded them, not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

The apostle Paul told the Galatian church to walk in the Spirit and they would not fulfill the lust of the flesh. In other words you can't fill your mind with the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life and expect to be able to resist temptation because you are adding fuel to the fire!

Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. I Corinthians 16:13
