THE STEPS TO DELIVERANCE

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. I Peter 5:8

The devil is a skilled hunter seeking an easy kill and just as a lion lurking in the weeds he looks for the weak, the young and the infirm. David was a target and the devil had him in his sights, watching until an opportune time to attack. The door was opened when David didn't go to war but instead decided to take a break.

There is nothing wrong with resting but even then you cant let your guard down and become complacent. David was burned out beyond rest and he was a "smoldering wick!" He had allowed all the trials of life to wear him down and the accusations of the devil bringing guilt and condemnation upon him because of his responsibilities being King of Israel. This why thousands of ministers and pastors burn out and leave the ministry every year!

When one is burned out he will often times isolate himself and isolation brings about desolation. With no time for God and no communion in the Spirit the enemy moves in and takes advantage of the situation. Sheep don't do well alone and that is when the wolves strike! When David first saw Bathsheba he should have turned in the other direction and resisted the temptation!

Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. James 1:12-16

THE STEPS TO DELIVERANCE

Why have you despised the commandment of the Lord, to do evil in His sight? You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword; you have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the people of Ammon. Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’ II Samuel 12:9,10

God rebukes David and tells him that the sword will never depart from his house, not just physical war but spiritual war with the devil, even in his own family! As Nathan delivered God's word, conviction and Godly sorrow welled up in his heart and he fell down before the Lord confessing his sins in anguish!

The danger of willful sin is the hardening of our heart toward God and the spiritual blindness that brings deceit and deception causing us to walk in darkness as a blind man! The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom that also convicts us and warns us not to sin against the Most High. The Bible instructs us to learn from these men's mistakes and turn from our iniquities and transgressions in order to refrain from the dangers and consequences of disobedience.

As it was for Samson and David, two of the strongest men who ever lived, one experienced a sin unto death and the other a life filled with the horrible consequences of his actions. We would do well to examine their mistakes and learn from them lest we too suffer the same fate as they did!

Thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I will raise up adversity against you from your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of the sun. For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, before the sun.’ ” II Samuel 12:11,12

THE STEPS TO DELIVERANCE

Whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed. John 8:34-36

David, because of his sin fell from his Divine appointment as King and became a common slave worthy of death. From a man after God's own heart to convicted adulterer and murderer in the blink of an eye!

The consequences of our sins bring about grave circumstances such as the death of David and Bathsheba's firstborn son to begin with and then throughout the rest of his life he experienced many trials and tribulations and death within his own family even to the point of losing his kingdom to his son and being ridiculed for his sins.

You can justify, lie and act like nothing has happened but your sin will find you out and your consequences will come like hungry lions on the hunt! It is like a blood trail, when hunting, you wound an animal and then follow the blood until you find them dead. So it is for everyone who sins against a holy God!

For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. Hebrews 10:26,27

THE STEPS TO DELIVERANCE

Then the Lord sent Nathan to David. And he came to him, and said to him: “There were two men in one city, one rich and the other poor. The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds. But the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb which he had bought and nourished; and it grew up together with him and with his children. It ate of his own food and drank from his own cup and lay in his bosom; and it was like a daughter to him. And a traveler came to the rich man, who refused to take from his own flock and from his own herd to prepare one for the wayfaring man who had come to him; but he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.” II Samuel 12:1-4

When David heard this story his anger was aroused and he said to Nathan, "As the Lord lives, the man who has done this shall surely die!" Then Nathan said to David, "You are the man!" The words that Nathan spoke went deep into David's heart, bringing about conviction of his sin for the first time.

Godly sorrow is the conviction of ones sin that leads to repentance, without which according to scripture no one will see the Lord! David's justification of his sin hardened his heart and blinded him to the truth that was able to set him free. Nathan was sent by God, a type of the Holy Spirit to expose David's sin and bring about conviction so that he could repent!

David acknowledged his sins and asked for forgiveness and the Lord forgave him but the consequences of his actions followed him to the grave and according to God, David's sin gave great occasion to his enemies! The wages of sin is death!

For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, (deliverance) not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. II Corinthians 7:10

THE STEPS TO DELIVERANCE

But to the wicked God says: "What right have you to declare My statutes, Or take My covenant in your mouth, Seeing you hate instruction And cast My words behind you? When you saw a thief, you consented with him, And have been a partaker with adulterers. You give your mouth to evil, And your tongue frames deceit. You sit and speak against your brother; You slander your own mother's son. These things you have done, and I kept silent; You thought that I was altogether like you; But I will rebuke you, And set them in order before your eyes. Psalm 50:16-21

King David sinned against God by committing adultery with his neighbor's wife and devised a diabolical plan to kill her husband and then justify the whole affair just like nothing had happened! This is what we all do when we sin, we justify our actions thinking maybe God didn't see it. But God saw it and was greatly displeased.

When Bathsheba announced to David that she was pregnant, he quickly devised a plan to have her husband Uriah brought in from the battlefield and sent home to his wife and the problem would be solved, but the plan backfired and when Uriah refused, David had him killed! One lie always leads to another and another until God exposed the whole affair! The sweet psalmist of Israel, a man after God's own heart was now a convicted felon, worthy of two death sentences in the eyes of a Holy God!

David brought Bathsheba to his home looking like a hero by taking this poor widow in to be his wife, but inwardly his evil heart was hardened by his sins. Bathsheba gave birth to a son but the boy died, a victim of God's righteous judgment while David lamented for him but to no avail. It had been almost a year and David was still on the throne, confident that his scheme went unnoticed with only the crusty old commander Joab knowing, but he wouldn't say anything against the king, but God was about to expose David's deeds!

“Now consider this, you who forget God, Lest I tear you in pieces, And there be none to deliver: Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; And to him who orders his conduct aright I will show the salvation of God.” Psalm 50:22,23

These things you have done, and I kept silent; you thought that I was altogether like you; but I will rebuke you, and set them in order before your eyes. Psalm 50:16-20

David had sinned against the Most High God by committing adultery with his neighbor's wife and then ordering her husband Uriah to be killed in battle by sending him to the forefront and then by pulling back from him, allowing the enemy to kill him.

Although a diabolical scheme of adultery and murder, David wasn't convicted of his heinous sins because his heart had been hardened and his only thoughts were to marry his adulterous bride and sweep the whole mess under the carpet. Bathsheba was pregnant and conceived a child which would soon die because of their sins and God was about to expose this travesty of His justice by sending His prophet Nathan!

Justifying our sins is a deadly proposition that opens the door for the powers of darkness to enter one's life and begin to rob, kill and destroy from the inside out! It is bad enough to sin against God and your neighbor, but to allow the devil access to your own life and the lives of your family can be devastating. "The wages of sin is death!"

“Now consider this, you who forget God, Lest I tear you in pieces, And there be none to deliver: Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; And to him who orders his conduct aright I will show the salvation (deliverance) of God.” Psalm 50:22,23

THE STEPS TO DELIVERANCE

Then David sent to Joab, saying, “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” And Joab sent Uriah to David. II Samuel 11:6

David knew the scripture, surely the ten commandments, "You shall not commit adultery." but his heart was hardened by his sin and all he could think about was to hide his tracks! This is what happens when we sin and don't confess and repent, we justify what we have done and one sin leads to another.

Uriah was a faithful Gentile warrior in David's company of mighty men, a better man that he and Joab sent him back from the front lines to consult with the king. David's scheme was to get Uriah drunk and send him home to Bathsheba and "Bam" problem solved! But David didn't know how faithful Uriah was because he refused to go home to his wife while his cohorts were engaged in battle.

David tried twice to get him drunk but Uriah refused a second time, so David signed his death warrant and sent him with it to Joab! Now that is a faithful man, for David to know that Uriah was trustworthy enough to carry his own death sentence without looking at it. Joab, a crusty old general and commander of David's army read the note and didn't blink an eye and sent Uriah into the heat of battle and then pulled back from him, allowing the enemy to kill him!

And when her mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the Lord. II Samuel 11:27

THE STEPS TO DELIVERANCE

Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold. So David sent and inquired about the woman. And someone said, “Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?” Then David sent messengers, and took her; and she came to him, and he lay with her, for she was cleansed from her impurity; and she returned to her house. II Samuel 11:2

After years of war and the stress of Saul trying to kill him along with multiple wives and children, David was burned out! This is a very dangerous place to be for a believer, especially when your enemy is watching you, planning to attack and take you down. Thousands of pastors and ministers leave the ministry every year because of burnout and the un-biblical responsibility of their church!

David didn't go to war that season with the other kings but sent Joab and his servants and stayed home as his enemy set a trap for him with his beautiful neighbor, Bathsheba. Walking out on his porch he saw her bathing and I can almost hear the devil whisper in his ear, "You deserve a break today!" Happens all the time when we entertain thoughts and allow our eyes to see what we shouldn't be looking at!

Bathsheba, more than likely a Gentile was married to one of David's faithful warriors and David could have had any woman in Israel except a someone who was married. David was about to commit two death penalty offenses, adultery and murder and all because he allowed himself to become burned out and exhausted!

Then David sent messengers, and took her; and she came to him, and he lay with her, for she was cleansed from her impurity; and she returned to her house. And the woman conceived; so she sent and told David, and said, “I am with child.” II Samuel 11:4,5

THE STEPS TO DELIVERANCE

Now the Lord said to Samuel, "How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons." I Samuel 16:1

When the prophet Samuel went to the house of Jesse to choose a king for Israel he was shown all of his sons, but the Lord didn't choose any of them, so he said, "Are all the young men here?" Jesse answered and said, "There remains the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep." David, the runt of the litter was chosen, not for his good looks but for his heart after God!

Samuel anointed David King over God's people Israel without fanfare or pomp and ceremony, but by the will of the Most High! Through a divine turn of events David was sent with supplies to the battlefield for Jesse's sons but ended up playing the harp for the demonized king, Saul. It was here that his first battle would be one of his greatest and most well known among the children of Israel, the showdown between a shepherd boy and the giant, Goliath!

This would be the beginning of many battles and great victories as well as many trials and tribulations, with King Saul chasing him and the Philistines trying to kill him it began to weigh heavily upon his mind and body as the devil watched from the sidelines, waiting for an opportunity to strike!

Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.” I Samuel 17:47

THE STEPS TO DELIVERANCE

"Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me." Psalm 50:15

King David, mighty warrior, the sweet psalmist of Israel, a man after God's own heart, most likely the greatest military commander the world has ever seen was also a sinner in need of deliverance!

David had a strong relationship with the Lord, worshiping in the fields of his father while he tended his sheep. He was proficient with a sling as many Israeli boys were at that time and had killed a lion and a bear. From the days of his youth Satan was bound and determined to destroy him and when the prophet Samuel anointed him King of Israel, the devil set his sights on him, making him a target and though it took years he finally took him down!

Within this devotional teaching we will see the steps to deliverance that David took when he committed adultery with Bathsheba and had her husband Uriah killed, both of which carried a death sentence! Even though David was a strong man, well acquainted with the scripture and deeply devoted to God, Satan was able to eventually wear him down and attack him and the consequences of his sins followed him to the grave!

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. I Peter 5:8,9

EQUIPPED FOR WAR

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord." Luke 4:19

To preach "The Acceptable Year of the Lord" is the time when God is willing to accept of people, or to receive sinners coming to him. The gospel assures us that the guilty "may" return, and that God will graciously receive them. There is, perhaps, here, an allusion to the year of Jubilee - the fiftieth year, when the trumpet was blown, and through the whole land proclamation was made of the liberty of Hebrew slaves, of the remission of debts, and of the restoration of possessions to their original families, Leviticus 25:8-13.

The phrase "The Acceptable Year" means the time when it would be acceptable to God to proclaim such a message, or agreeable to Him under the gospel. Just as all debts were forgiven in the year of Jubilee so all of our debts of sin, transgressions, trespasses and generational curses have also been forgiven and washed away by the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ! This is the acceptable time for us to preach the message of forgiveness of sins and God's ability to receive sinners by His grace and His mercy, regardless of their disobedience.

Our primary mission in this age is to preach repentance for forgiveness of sins and to make disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. The harvest is truly white and the laborers are few, but God is able to raise up workers to go into His harvest! Pray for the lost to come in this "Acceptable Year of the Lord" to be saved and set free in Jesus name!

This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. I Timothy 1:15

EQUIPPED FOR WAR

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to set at liberty those who are oppressed."Luke 4:18

Oppression means to crush by abuse of power or authority, to weigh down or to burden. This is what Satan does, he oppresses us to the point of depression and even suicide, unless we fight him off with faith and the sword of the Spirit.

Millions today, even in the body of Christ are oppressed and brought down into discouragement, filled with fear, doubt and unbelief, unable to function, much less war with their enemies! Jesus came to set the captives free of oppression, depression and fear! The Word tells us to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ or to the obedience of His word!

In other words, fill your mind with the word of God, meditate on His thousands of promises for you and fight the good fight of faith that you are called to do in the name, power, blood and authority of the Lord Jesus Christ! Oppression be gone!

That you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love. Colossians 1:10-13

EQUIPPED FOR WAR

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me to give recovery of sight to the blind." Luke 4:18

There are two kinds of sight, physical sight and spiritual sight and we have been given the authority to recover both! Jesus said to heal the sick, cast out demons and open blind eyes in His name and by the anointing He has given us.

My pastor, mentor and friend, David went blind a few years ago from Macular Degeneration. David is as close to a man after God's own heart as I have seen in my journey and I believe when God finishes the work on his spiritual sight that his physical sight will be restored! Although our ability to see with our eyes is very important, spiritual sight is imperative for us to defeat our unseen enemies.

We are spiritual people who walk in the light of the Lord, but many never gain their spiritual sight because they have their eyes fixed on the lusts of the world. We must see in the Spirit to gain wisdom, understanding and revelation of His word!

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints. EQUIPPED FOR WAR

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, to proclaim liberty to the captives." Luke 4:18

There are many forms of captivity in the Bible, enslavement, bondage and imprisonment to various kinds of masters. Whatever holds you in captivity is your master, whether sin or the things of the world, but Jesus came to set the captives free!

We, as stewards of the mysteries of God have been given authority and power to pull down strongholds and to preach the gospel that sets the captives free from whatever holds them! My father always said, "Possession is nine-tenths of the law" meaning whatever or whomever possesses you, legally has a right to you.

Sin is a cruel taskmaster with no mercy or grace, it holds its victims tightly with none to rescue except the Lord Jesus. Only by acknowledging and confessing ones sins, and repenting can one be truly free from the bondage of the devil!

In humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will. II Timothy 2:25,26

EQUIPPED FOR WAR

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He anointed Me to heal the brokenhearted." Luke 4:18

As the old song says, "Only love can break a heart and only love can mend it!" True, true, but the only love that can mend our hearts is the love of Jesus! We have been given that love to not only mend our hearts, but to share it with the world, many of whom are hopeless and lost.

Jesus came to bind up the brokenhearted and heal us of all of our sorrows and woes by shedding His blood to wash away our sins, transgressions and generational curses, the real reason our hearts our broken! By sharing the love of Christ with others and our testimony, we become co-laborers with Him!

We are anointed with Holy Spirit power to heal, deliver and restore those who are broken vessels in need of restoration! The world needs a Savior and we are His agents of change, equipped to war with the devil and overcome by the blood of the Lamb! If you have received the love of Jesus to mend your broken heart, then give that love away to someone who desperately needs it!

Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. I John 4:17

EQUIPPED FOR WAR

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor." Luke 4:18

As disciples of Christ we too are anointed to preach the good news to the poor of this world! Problem being, most want to preach to the rich who for the most part don't need God! Very seldom does someone who has it all together financially or is in good health cry out to God to be saved.

The poor on the other hand are desperate for divine intervention in need of all things, unlike America who is rich and increased in goods. I grew up in a family that was very well off and I knew at a young age that I would someday inherit my father's business of which I did when he died at the young age of 63! I was 25 years old, young and dumb and obsessed with sex, drugs and rock and roll! I was a millionaire with a successful equipment business and 7 acres of prime industrial lease property when I got hooked on cocaine and squandered all that my father had left me!

Broke, busted and disgusted, I ended up losing all and cutting scrap metal just to make a living until one night a man came to my house and preached the gospel to me, a poor man who needed Jesus and the rest is history. I gave my life and heart to the Lord and became a new creation in Christ 40 years ago!

Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity. Luke 8:14

EQUIPPED FOR WAR

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” Luke 4:18,19

The above-mentioned scripture is the body of Christ's mission statement and as His instruments we must obey His call to do that in which He commands! He has anointed us to preach, heal, proclaim liberty, recover sight to the blind and liberty to the oppressed! We are his ambassadors and representatives with power of attorney to act in His name!

Anointing is symbolic of the Holy Spirit imparted to His followers who have laid down their lives for Him. It is received through the "Baptism in the Holy Spirit" by faith in His name and by asking for His anointing! It is imperative that you receive power from on high in order to do the works of Christ and to fulfill your divine destiny!

In regards to spiritual warfare and deliverance, the anointing breaks the yoke of bondage on a person, setting them free from Satan's stronghold. The yoke is what holds us to whatever sin that has created a stronghold in a person's life!

It shall come to pass in that day that his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck, and the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil. Isaiah 10:27

EQUIPPED FOR WAR

Then he brought Him to Jerusalem, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ” Luke 4:9-11

The devil is relentless when it comes to deceiving us and will stop at nothing to try and get us to fall for his schemes! He had already tried to get Jesus to doubt who He was and now for a second time he tried it again before taking Him up on the pinnacle of the temple!

Satan knows the word of God backwards and forwards and is not above quoting it in order to gain an advantage. This diabolical scheme obviously works because he has been successful in dividing most of the church of Jesus Christ into denominations, cults, sects, and religious organizations all divided because of proof-texting the word of God! (A proof-text is a passage of scripture presented as proof for a theological doctrine, belief, or principle.)

As the devil quoted Psalm 91:11,12 to Jesus trying to convince Him to jump off the temple and His angels would bear Him up, Jesus again used the sword of the Word against him defeating him and the devil departed!

And Jesus answered and said to him, “It has been said, ‘You shall not tempt the LORD your God.’” Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time. Luke 4:12,13
