The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way. Though he falls, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand. Psalm 37:23,24

The word ordered is translated pre-arranged or established, not to be confused with the doctrine of predestination. But nonetheless, our steps are ordered by the Lord because He knows the way in which we are to step.

The first expression of Christ's body was called "The Way," and Jesus is the Way, the only way and it is He who leads us! Walking the paths of life we encounter many detours: construction, bumpy roads and even accidents that can not only slow us down but make us rely on our built-in Holy Spirit GPS.

In the following devotionals, we will observe the many steps that lead to peace and contentment in the Lord and if we will follow Him, we will truly possess the abundant joy, strength and the riches of His covenant. So, step out in faith and traverse the steps of a good man! (and woman)

I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor His descendants (us) begging bread. He is ever merciful and lends; and His descendants (us) are blessed. Psalm 37:25,26

"Give and it will be given to you; good measure pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you." Luke 6:38

God has given us all things to enjoy and everything we own or claim to own is His. The cattle, the hills, the dirt and everything in the universe is His! In actuality, we are only borrowing from God those things that we possess.

So, with that in mind, why are we so stingy with our possessions? Pride, greed, selfishness or all of the above? God even gave His own Son to save our souls from eternal damnation! What more could He give us? If we have been given all things, should we not also give to those in need? Yes! We as the children of the Most High should be the most generous folks on the planet!

In the Old Testament God only asked that His people give 10% of their income as a tithe of all they made as to their income. Even today if you only tithe you will be blessed, but New Testament giving, according to the Word looks to me like we are led by the Holy Spirit to give and He could ask it all at any time to cover any pressing needs in His body! If you are having financial difficulty, ask God about your history of giving and do whatever He says and you will be blessed!

For I do not mean that others should be eased and you be burdened; but that by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may supply their lack, that their abundance also may supply your lack, that there may be equality. As it is written, "He who gathers much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack." II Corinthians 8:13-15

I took my troubles down to Madame Ruth, you know that gypsy with the gold-capped tooth, shes got a storefront at thirty-fourth and Vine, selling little bottles of Love Potion No. 9. The Coasters

If you are old enough you will remember this tune from the early sixties about a lad who was, according to him, "A flop with chicks!" He went to a gypsy to cure his ills with women and she gave him a potion which didn't end up too good because he kissed a cop and his love affair was over!

Today, however, many put there trust in potions, psalm readers, mediums and any self-help guru coming down the road. Even born again Christians practice Yoga, an Eastern cultist religion that when studied in-depth you find out that it is a demonically inspired and controlled system that will possess your spirit and open you up for demons to enter you! Ref. Kundalini awakening: "Awake the snake!" Check it out!

Looking for love in all the wrong places will afford your attacks from the enemy of your soul and the powers of darkness will overtake you, such as practicing Yoga and other mystical religions introduced to you for good, although it is disguised and is in fact, evil!

That they may come to their senses and escape the snare (trap) of the devil, having been taken captive to do his will. (possession) II Timothy 2:26

"However, when He, the Spirit of truth has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come." John 16:13

We live in a day where there is just not much that is true, where there is always someone trying to scam you, lie to you, or hack you! Let's face it, a man's word is no longer his bond and when someone tells you something you had better check it out, even Snopes, the online fact-checker has proven to give false information, so who can you trust?

The only One you can trust is Jesus and His Spirit in you is your "Lie detector" who leads you and guides you through the maze of deception in these last days! The devil is a liar and many today are controlled by demons! Social media has taken the minds of millions with some new story or breaking news daily trying to get your attention and in some cases, your heart!

Jesus said that even His elect could be deceived in these last days and in fact many are, but we have a Helper, a spiritual guide, the Holy Spirit, who will always lead us in truth! The truth will set you free from the lies and deception of the devil if you will only surrender to the leading of the Spirit of truth!

"You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice," John 18:37

Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. II Corinthians 4:16

Even though we are supernatural new creations in Christ, because of trials, tribulations and the storms of life we sometimes lose heart! As we get older our outward bodies grow weary and sickness and disease try and take over until we die.

But rejoice because our inward man is eternal in Christ and even though the carton is wearing out, we as spiritual beings are being daily renewed! I attended a church service Sunday with a very young body of believers who were meeting at a local high school led by a young man who was Spirit-filled and full of power and grace. Most of the congregation were millennial's but the praise and worship was out of this world.

Only six months old, the church has grown to over a thousand and a local pastor of a once large Assembly of God gave them his building, another miraculous feat of supernatural grace. The point being, we as inward men and women need supernatural praise, worship and anointed preaching and teaching in order to be renewed.
For our light affliction, which is for a moment is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. II Corinthians 4:17,18

When the disciples saw Jesus walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying "It is a ghost!" And they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them saying, "Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid." And Peter answered Him and said, "Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water." So Jesus said, "Come!" Matthew 14:26-29

Twelve disciples scared to death in a boat being tossed by the wind and Jesus comes to them walking on water! They had just seen Him feed some 5000 people supernaturally and now having forgotten that miracle they feared for their lives!

When Jesus approached the boat he told Peter to come to Him, something totally impossible for a human being to do, to walk on water. Peter got out of the boat and actually walked on water until he took his eyes off Jesus and became afraid of the waves and began to sink. Peter cried out and Jesus saved him, but the point of the message is this, in order to walk in the supernatural we have to get out of our boats of unbelief!

As disciples of Christ we have to live in the supernatural realm of the Holy Spirit, walking in faith and exercising our God-given gift of faith! Remember He said, "On earth as it is in Heaven!" This is what He was teaching His disciples, how to believe and walk in the miraculous! So, what are you waiting for? Get out of the boat!

"O you of little faith, why did you doubt?" And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him saying, "Truly You are the Son of God." Matthew 14:31-33

Hear my son, and daughters, and receive My sayings, and the years of your life will be many. I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in right paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hindered, and when you run, you will not stumble. Take firm hold of instruction, do not let go; keep her for she is your life. Proverbs 4:10-13

There are many paths available to us, but only one that leads to eternal life, Jesus said, "Enter by the narrow gate, because wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction and there are many who go in by it." I started out on the wrong path and was almost destroyed until I found Jesus, or should I say He found me!

Today there are even more detours on the path of life trying to turn us away from our eternal destination. Without Holy Spirit GPS one can easily get lost and go down the wrong road. Jesus said that even the elect could be deceived. The other night I taught on Spiritual Warfare at a fellowship about three people who were blown off course by the enemy: Adam who was led to doubt God's command, Samson who was seduced by demons, and David who succumbed to lust and fell into sin with his neighbor's wife!

All three were strong men of God, but they were led on the path of the wicked! Because of Adam's sin we were all condemned to eternal death, Samson's sin cost him his life and David suffered grave consequences for his actions and all these were instructions for us, that we should not crave evil things!

Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of evil. Avoid it, do not travel on it, turn away from it and pass on. Proverbs 4:14,15

Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding; for her proceeds are better than the profits of silver and her gain than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies, and all things you may desire cannot compare with her. Proverbs 3:13-15

The man who finds wisdom is the man who finds Jesus, making Him Lord and Master of his life. The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord, our reverence and respect for the Most High! We serve a mighty God who has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness, things that accompany our salvation.

There are two groups of people in this world, the wise and the fool! The fool has said in his heart, there is no God, and the wise have made Him Lord! Wisdom only comes from God, the world thinks they are wise but their wisdom will perish in Hell at the end. God gives us all the answers to this life and discernment to know His perfect will.

We as believers have been made stewards of God 's wisdom and knowledge and those who know Him have a divine treasure that is priceless, held in the vaults of Heaven and available to those who ask!

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5

My son, (and daughters) do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor detest His correction. For whom the Lord loves He corrects, just as a father, the son in whom He delights. Proverbs 3:11,12

If we belong to God we are subject to His discipline, to be corrected any time we veer away from His truth! Many times on our journey with Jesus we get blown off course by the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, but our Captain always steers us back on the course of life!

Our earthly fathers disciplined us for our good and so we should also expect our heavenly Father to do the same for our eternal good. He loves us and is always looking out for our best interests. The devil on the other hand is always looking to trap you and drive you off the path of life, away from the correction of God. Remember what he told Miss Eve, "Has God said, 'You surely shall not die!' "

I have spent most of my adult spiritual life directing Christian residential ministries for men, women and adolescents. Most were never disciplined by their parents, left to their own device only to be drawn away into a life of sin and rebellion. Many were only 18 years old when they came in our program and if you have ever tried to break an 18 year old horse who has never been trained, it is a monumental task!

If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons, (and daughters) for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. Hebrews 12:7,8

But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy; In fear of You I will worship toward your holy temple. Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; make Your way straight before my face. Psalm 5:7,8

It is only because of His mercy and grace that we can take another breath! In fear and respect for this awesome God we worship Him and because of our enemies He makes the way straight before us. I pray almost every day for Him to go before me and make the crooked places straight!

We as believers walk the path of life through a maze of trials, tribulation and death with thousands falling at our side every day! It reminds me of the "Infiltration Course" we traversed in the Marine Corps. A field in which we would cross on our bellies with live fire over our heads and at times rattlesnakes would meet the unsuspecting, making it even more dangerous! Needless to say, it was a harrowing experience, teaching us to be aware of our surroundings in the midst of war!

Today we must also be aware and as the scripture says, be on the alert, your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour! We can rejoice in the fact that God is our defender, our hope in times of trouble and in Him we put our trust!

But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; let them ever shout for joy, because you defend them; let those also who love Your name be joyful in You. For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield. Psalm 5:11,12

Do not be wise in your own eyes, fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones. Proverbs 3:7, 8

The previous scripture said don't lean on your own understanding and this one says don't be wise in your own eyes, in other words, seek His knowledge, wisdom and understanding. Fear and respect God in every circumstance of life!

Many of the sicknesses and diseases today are caused by sin, for instance, some cancers, arthritis and autoimmune diseases can be directly linked to bitterness and un-forgiveness. It is important to cleanse your heart of all the times you were hurt by someone and release the pain and resentment that has festered all of these years causing bitterness and anguish that can even result in one's death.

If you have ever had a splinter, at first, many times you don't feel anything but if it is allowed to remain, in a few days it begins to become sore and even infected. This is how bitterness begins to defile you and those around you until you pull the sharp point out of your heart! Ref. Hebrews 12:14,15

Confess your trespasses and sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man (or woman) avails much. James 5:16

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct (make smooth or straight) your paths. Proverbs 3:5,6

This proverb was the first word God gave me after I was saved and learning how to hear His voice. It remains my favorite to this day. Trust is the key to all of our kingdom blessings stored in the vaults of Heaven.

Too many times we tend to lean on what we perceive something is instead of trusting in His wisdom. Our own understanding will always disrupt His plan for us. If we will only submit and acknowledge that it is He who is in control He will make straight paths for our feet! Every day when I begin my walk with Him I pray for Him to go before me and make the crooked places in my life, straight!

If we would only ask Him for His divine guidance and Holy Spirit direction, we would never be lost or deceived by the detours of life. As the old adage states, "Trust and obey, there is no other way!"

Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; make Your way straight before my face. Psalm 5:8

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law (word) of the Lord, and in His law (word) he meditates day and night. Psalm 1:1,2

Most walk in the counsel of the ungodly every day, listening to doctors, lawyers, counselors and a multitude of lost people! The counsel we receive can be influenced by demons and the outcome can be devastating. Take for instance, the operating room where you are surrounded by unbelievers wearing masks with knives in their hands! Sound like something God-ordained?

The point of the psalm is this, we live in the midst of sinners, people controlled by the powers of darkness and a media blitz that daily swarms us with news, good, bad or fake! Our minds are polluted with the world and all it contains that can lead us to depression, discouragement and even suicide in some cases. The remedy is God's word, the divine counsel of the Creator of the entire universe, where no problem is too hard or un-solvable!

It is of the utmost importance for us to meditate on the word of God, appropriating the thousands of promises available to us, claiming the supernatural power of God into every circumstance happening in our lives and seeing the outcome of our faith! To fill our minds with truth and the comfort of the scripture will drive out all the ungodly influence of the world!

He shall be a tree planted by the river of water, (water of life) that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper. Psalm 1:3

God is a just judge, and God is angry with the wicked every day. If He does not turn back, He will sharpen His sword; He bends His bow and makes it ready. He also prepares for Himself instruments of death; He makes His arrows into fiery shafts. Psalm 7:11-13

God is a loving and just God who gave His only begotten Son to die for the wicked whom He loves, even though He is angry with them and has created Hell for those who don't repent! There are no gray areas with God's justice like mankind has with his, but God also has grace and mercy that will satisfy His wrath on the sinner who repents!

Contrary to popular belief and ignorance you don't hear about Satan and his demons, he is always mentioned in the scripture as the devil and his angels! It is my personal belief that demons are the instruments of God's indignation in which He sends against the wicked. Throughout the Old Testament it gives reference to God wielding His bow, sharpening His sword and as in the above mentioned scripture, making His arrows into fiery shafts.

One such reference is King Saul who disobeyed God and received an evil spirit sent from God! The point is this: whether demon or angelic host, disobedience and rebellion bring about judgment and we should fear this awesome God who is angry with the wicked every day!

"Now, therefore," says the Lord, "Turn to Me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning." So rend your heart, and not your garments; return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness; and He relents from doing harm. Joel 2:12,13
