For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Romans 8:14

Who's your Daddy? Who is leading you down the paths of life, Holy Spirit or the father of lies, Satan? Better find out quick because one leads to life eternal and the other eternal damnation in the lake of fire!

Those who are led by the Great Shepherd live in peace, enjoy all the provision and joy of the Lord and even though they walk through valleys of death their Shepherd never leaves them! One way to know who is leading someone is to look at their life, is it filled with the fruit of the Spirit or are they consumed with the worries and cares of this world?

One of the greatest books I have ever read is, "A Shepherd looks at the 23rd Psalm" by Phillip Keller who was a shepherd at one time in South Africa. In his book he describes the good fruit of a loving shepherd who cares for his flock at all costs, and the consequences of his neighbor's flock that was severely malnourished and left to fend for themselves!

The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Psalm 23:1-3

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to the carnal (fleshly) minded is death, but to the spiritually minded is life and peace. Romans 8:5,6

The difference in the spiritual man and the man who lives in the flesh is likened to someone who is married but does not live with his spouse, he has the marriage license, he had a ceremony, (walked an isle) even repeated the vows (sinner's prayer) but no longer lives with his wife, instead living for himself.

The spiritual man on the other hand loves his spouse with all of his heart, soul, mind, and strength, living for her and providing for her and so it is to walk in the Spirit! The spiritual man loves God, meditates day and night in His word, ever longing to hear His voice and to please Him in all things!

I have seen countless people over the years who were good church-going folks, in Sunday school and even some in the choir, but when they leave the building it is business as usual, no spiritual life, only worldly talk without the walk. This is someone who is religious like the Pharisees, always looking down their noses at others, judging everything they do, but having no spiritual life within themselves!

Because the carnal mind is enmity (hostility) against God; for it is not subject to the law of God nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Romans 8:7,8

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1

Remember the old saying, even tattooed on many tough guys and felons, "Born to Lose?" Well, all have sinned and are indeed born to lose their souls unless they become born again believers in Jesus Christ!

We as His spiritual children who are washed in the blood and forgiven of all our transgressions are no longer condemned to damnation, but free in Christ to inherit salvation leading to eternal life! We are born again to win and be free from sin to live in victory in Jesus, putting to death the deeds of the flesh and walking in the Spirit of life and peace.

Even though we are freed from sin and no longer condemned, we still have that rotten, stinking corpse that we can sometimes feel tugging at us to look back and see that old dead man and the life we once lived! Resist him and keep your eyes straight ahead looking at things above where the Lord Jesus is, sitting at the right hand of God!

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:2

O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Romans 7:24

The Romans were a cruel brood of torturers who could keep people alive for days, even weeks as they were crucified, left to rot on a cross for the birds of the air to eat! Another horrible act of cruelty was to chain a corpse to a healthy person until the disease and decomposition killed them. So it is with our "Old Man!"

We are born again into supernatural beings, washed in the blood of Christ, and set free from the law of sin and death! But, there is a fleshly corpse tied to us, our old human, fleshly man who was crucified with Christ, lowered into the grave of baptism, considered dead to us, but the stench of that old life still haunts at times our spiritual man.

In order to walk in the Spirit, one has to keep "The old man in the grave!" That old life that appears sometimes out of nowhere to tempt us and try our resolve is always there and the smell of death that surrounds us can only be removed by the beautiful fragrance of Christ! This is walking in the Spirit!

But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language, out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him. Colossians 3:8-10
